My neighbor was doing an additon. Brought be a several 1x4. He said "cut these in half for me". I adjusted the radial arm and had an exact "half cut", ran them through. Couple hours later he was back complaining they were too narrow and I made a mistake. Took a bit of taping and showing him that lumber does not measure what he thought. I even demonstrated tht cutting in half a real 1x4 would still come out to less than 2" due to the saw kerf. But then seveeral years prior he said he planted a row of saplings in his pasture. I told him he needed to fence it off or the cows would eat them. "Aw BS". They didn't survive the day.

They used to be...back in the early 1900's (I read that in your link...I wasn't alive nor were my parents). Btw, I think the lawsuit against Subway because some of their sandwiches didn't measure "foot-long" (bread being bread and doing "bread stuff" some might have been 11", some 13") was tossed recently also.
