What I was asking about was

I now have 220 in my garage and would like to buy a older used welder that is 3 phase
I need info on a Inverter to change the 220 to 3 phase
There is a place in Cleveland Ohio that buy's closed factories
and has a lot of (((220/440/480)) equipment

If all you want is a welder, I'd just get 220 1ph welder. Farmers use rotary phase converters for high hp ap[plications like feed grinders, augers and conveyors etc. I wouldn't think there wouldn't be much advantage for3ph welder unless you do a lot of gouging.

Rotary phase converters dont do real well on a welder depending on the welder. If its an old generator/driven dc welder where an electric 3 phase motor drives a dc generator for power it will work. as for machine tools a simple rotaryconvertercan be made from a large 3 phase motor with 1/3rd greater amount HP rating as your largest motor. The trick is to wire 220 to one leg of the slave motor and then a switch to motor of the machine and a 220 to one of its legs. Then run your other 2 legs off the slave motor to themachines moter. All youhave to do is use a 1750 rpm 110 motor to spinn the slave motor up to speed and add power. It generatsa the other 2 legs for your machineto run off of. My old machinist teacher had us build one forhis home shop. Its slightly inefficeint butworks.
