I've got a Bx62 and it works really well.:) 5 and 6" stuff do tax the engine a bit especially if its long. Stuff that big I usually use for firewood anyway. Where's its nice, is forks in tree limbs that are close to six inches or more, less trimming with a saw. BTW my tractor's pto hp is 28.

Good luck!

Take a look at the Valby 170. Tractor Chipper

I've had a Valby 140 and now a Valby 160 (same as 170) and they are excellent. Heavy flywheel and 2 sharp knives which shear equate to low hp requirements. The 170 will work with 20 hp. (faster feed with more)

Andy

How much does a 170 sell for? I have been looking at different chippers and this is the first time I have seen this brand.

When I bought my 160 (now 170 Valby has a history of renumbering essentially the same machines with new numbers) about 4 years ago, with hydraulic feed it was about $6900. Valby is one of the better old line of chippers around. They are very popular.

OUCH! I don't plan on doing enough to warrant that much money. It would probably be cheaper to rent a chipper, but I like the idea of having it ready when I am, it's hard for me to plan ahead, sometimes I have to work on the property when the opportunity arises. Thanks for the info!

HI
If I owned the 6 inch chipper I wouldnt worry too much about chipping 6 inch peices,i cut my wood down to at least 3.The thing to think about is could ones tractor get it turning without stalling. The biggest reason in my book to own a larger capacity chipper ,is to not have to limb up the brushcrotches too fine, making less chainsaw work.I have a 4 inch vertical feed and i have to limb up the brush a little to avoid jam ups, especially on species where the limbs grow staight outfrom the stalks like poplar, and beech. If i could have bought a 6 inch that my Little tractor could start up and it had vertical ,gravity feed i would have.Something to think about.

The Jinma 6" chippers are running $ 1,599.00,plus shipping and are a great value for the money, there are better units but the are at least double the cost.

I just picked up my Salsco 627XT 6" inch chipper this morning, greased it up, hooked up the hydraulic lines and chipped trees for 45 minutes, and it worked like a champ. It is the most solid unit I have seen, and when feeding 6 inch pines, with the limbs attached the tractor never seems to slow down. My tractor has 50 hp to the PTO. I started to order it with out the hydraulic feed, but now I'm glad I didn't. Get the tree started and go grab another, then by the time I get back its gone and ready for the next. I now have a pile that would fill a pickup truck.

So Cool,

Les

I sure hope it did work nicely. Those Salsco's are over 5 Grand.. Good luck with it. Should be a pleasure to use.

I run a Jinma 6" off a Kubota L3130. It handles even the big stuff with ease so you'll have no trouble with your L3400. I've had the chipper about a year and it's processed a lot of stuff. Apart from clogging the outlet chute a couple times with wet pine needles, it hasn't put a foot wrong - just gave it it's first seriious o/haul which included changing the roller feed belt and installing new blades.

Jinmas tend to have trouble with knuckle drive to the feed roller after a few 10s of hrs of use. I kept them well lubed, but on mine, the knuckles rounded out soon after the 1st drive belt wore out. I wonder if they have been upgraded.
