Hey everyone, this is my first post on here and my first real start to finish build. In only on day two but I see some progress any helpful hints from the community would be appreciated. So here goes, pics and descriptions below.

So here is my old tractor, a Massey 35, from the 50's I think. She seized on me last year so I'm going to recycle the fron tires for my trailer project

It was very tough to get the wheels and the mounts off the tractor, lots of jumping on bars and cursing, to much dry grass around for heating it up, but they came off in a couple of hours

So here is the assembly off the tractor, at first I thought it would be perfect to use as is, bolted together to form the centre cross brace for the underside of the trailer, but I got to thinking that I could use it for variable pin placement on the tilt part of the trailer. I really want to use the three point to tilt the trailer, but the old ball and hitch just won't get me the angle I'm looking for. I'm thinking I will use the mounts to put pins in to pivot off

Here is the base frame all tacked together, I used 2.5 inch angle for the bottom both for strength and as a nice shelf to lay the plywood onto when the frame is done. The rails will be made from 1" square tubing

Her I am preparing to weld the wheel mounts to the frame. As you can see here is a gap when clapped together, it took a TON of grinding to get it flatten out

Mind my not checking the spellcheck. Here is the mount after grinding it close to flat. Also mind my terminology as I am just a hobbyist, feel free to correct me anytime.

Here is the frame with the wheel heavily tacked on (super heavy wheels), and then with both wheels on. Feels like progress. I am using an old 300Amp miller Stick I got for a hundred bucks on craigslist, tacks were made at 100 amps with 7018 rods

Two things you may notice, one, the wheels have camber, and two they rotate freely left to right. I plan on ignoring the camber because this will just be used on the vineyard so always at low speeds. The freely rotating I will fix by welding the mounts the the shaft at the right height, they look cast but after a grind I have confirmed they are mild steel.

Here are a couple images of my welds, messy I know but I'm getting better. I did my core pass at 100 amps and my cover at 125 amps, there is some undercut there but I guess as a very amateur welder I would err on the side of too much heat, not sure if that's the right thing to do. The shaft I did 6 passes or so on, from 100 amps up to 130 increases my heat each time. I figured its going to be taking all of the weight so it should be burly. I'm sure there is some wasted metal in there but again, I'm erring on the side of too much, I'm sure there is a better way, let me know if you know one.

Cover pass from one of the frame welds. Still messy but I find it much easier on the horizontal, still a lot of practice needed on the vertical welds

Here I am squaring up the vertical for the upper cage part of the trailer, it's 14 inches deep in the bed, 6 feet long and 4 feet wide to fit in my narrow 6 foot vineyard rows.

Her is the trailer as it currently stands, all the rails and bits are fully welded, and man oh man do I need some serious vertical practice. It's tough to get a good burn with my machine under 100 amps with the rods I have so I definitely had some drips and blew thought a couple spots on the thinner tubing. I would have brought out my mig but its been having some trouble, kinda starts and stops arcing, not sure what's up with it. They don't make me like they used to. So hopefully tomorrow I will get the 3 point mount and the lifting bars sorted out. I'm thinking I will have the lift arms rotate on a pin that's in one of those holes in the old tractor wheel mounts. This way with the 30ish degrees I have in lift angle on the three point will translate to 45 + degrees on the trailer for tilting and dumping. With the pivot 1.5 feet behind the front of the trailer and 2.5 feet in front of the wheels I should be able to get what I'm looking for. Gotta love the iPhone, pocket trigonometry apps for helping calculate the angles. So that's where it's at today, any feedback you guys have would be great. Cheers.

Looking good so far. I like it! Your welds arn't decently bad. Some welds look like splattered bird crap.

You should pick up a magnetic square. Less work that trying to get C clamp on and a square.

looks great. keep up the good work

He didn't have any photos up yet.. Are you just doing this for posts?

Yeah, splattered bird crap indeed. I think I might need to get my mig up and running.my stick has a lot of trouble starting an arc under 100amps, hence the spots everywhere, that's my dragging it trying to get a burn before I move it to the weld spot. Improper I know, or maybe I need some different rods for the first pass welds, it seems like if I go up to 115 amps where it starts to burn nicely its too hot. Fine for me and horizontal but anything on too much of an angle is it drips. I still have. A lot to learn on the welding front, but I do love it.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your welding is great compared to your design skills. With all the leverage the axles will have I am sure that they will break off the first time it is used. And a TO 30 ferg. even with a blown engin would be worth more than a 4X6 tilt trailer. I applaud your effort, and I want you to be happy with the outcome, but I think it would have been better to get some imput from some folks that have built trailers before. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, just saying
