Then coat all the threads with a good anti-seize compound to prevent them from locking up again.

I removed the check chains after using a penetrating oil I borrowed from my B-I-L. This stuff works better than any penetrating oil I have ever seen. I really did not think I would get those bolts loose but I applied this stuff and let it sit for about five minutes and they turned fairly easily.

After removing the check chains and then applying same stuff to the turnbuckles, I waited again for five minutes and was able to turn both with no great difficulty. I didn't even put them in the vise.

If you had seen the threads on these things, you would understand my amazment.

I have used Kroil on my guns before with great results. I didn't think to mention it because it was so hard to find when I looked for some for myself. The PB Blaster is easier to find.

That is good stuff (penetrating oil). I have used it for about 15+ years.

Ahh yes. Kroil - "the oil that creeps", if I remember the motto correctly. Didn't know you could still get the stuff. I've been nursing a quart for years because I didn't know it was still available. Once I find an outlet, I've got lots of uses for it.
