I know it's a rookie question, but I have the bh77 backhoe attached on the back of my b2650. I don't have a reason to remove it and I haven't engaged it. Ever.

I was just adding a bit of UDT2 oil to top it off and noticed the gears looked dry. It is clean and shiny, no rust at all, but I thought to engage it to lube em up every so often.

Is it OK to run the pto on the back while the backhoe is attached? It won't damage anything right?

The tractor output end of the PTO terminates in SPLINES, not gears. Splines should be lightly lubed and completely covered with a synthetic rubber PTO cap when not in use.

Most here favor Eureka 'Fluid Film' for PTO splines. It is an anti-rust liquid thick enough to hold up when PTO gets hot.

I favor aerosol wax chain lube for splines.

It tractor engine is off, PTO splines on modern tractors can be turned most of one rotation by hand.

The spline is covered with a rubber cap. Thank you. When I look in the fill hole, I see this. Is it a gear? Does it move? If so how do I engage it? If I can engage it, can I do so with the backhoe attached?

I did see the "gear" move when I manually raised the hitch arms, but not by much. I was under the impression it spun.

If you have nothing connected to the PTO splines there should be no problem if you engage the PTO. I would personally remove the rubber cap first - be sure to replace it when done. I don't know that it's necessary to lube the gears in that manner but it should hurt nothing.
