I'm new here, so I have please bare with me.

I have a 1025r with a loader. My question is.

With balance weight installed while doing loader work should I lock the weight in the up position using the valve? I'm thinking that by doing so, it will keep the hydraulic pump from having to constantly supply pressure to hold up the weight. Thus allowing more hydraulic flow to the loader.

Is my thinking flawed?

Thanks, Francis

Once the 3 pt gets to the height set by the 3 pt lever, it stays in position and the fluid just free flows through the 3 pt valve back to the transmission. There is no harm at all to the pump.

Ptsg,, thanks for the explanation.

So why have the valve? Is it's only function to control the 3pt drop rate speed?

The three point valve is used to control the height or position of the three point arms similar to how the loader valve is used to control movement or position of the loader and bucket.

The valve controls the speed the 3 pt drops, or if you want, close it all the way and the 3 pt won't drop at all. It can still raise though.

From a safety standpoint, you would close that valve all the way when working on the implement or went going on the road, so you don't accidentally lower the 3 pt hitch.

Yes. Heavy implements will crash to the ground if you dont set it to damp their fall. Of course you can also lock the implement from falling from a position you choose -- if you raise it from there though it will assume the new position. Some care is needed due this as you adjust damping on a very heavy implement. --It gets pretty sensitive because the valve will be almost totally closed.-- You might accidentally raise all the way up and find it wont come down and the valve wont turn. The Hyd pressure on the valve binds it. You may end up having to put a jack under the implement to ease the pressure so you can open the valve a little!
