"That 5' box blade may be too much for the Bolens. I would go back and trade it for a 4' blade. You will probably be more satisfied with the 4' blade performance. I would rather fully utilize my 4' blade than have to finesse a 5' blade. Just my .02"

My Mitsubishi D2000ii has 20hp at the pto. It has no problem with a 5' box blade full of dirt.

Try it before you trade anything.

I guess that depends on your soil conditions which can make a big difference. If you have clay and rock soil that I have you won't go far with your 5' box scraper, especially with the scarifers lowered at all.

The non adjustable chains on the inside of the arms are there to keep the arms out of the tires when no implement is hitched up.

Otherwise.. keep the turnbuckles as tight as needed to keep the implement from swinging.

Thanks for all of the useful information. I read a post go out and play with it. One more question.....On the outside of the bottom bars are turnbuckles, on the inside are chains that don't seem to be adjustable. How tight/loose do I need to keep the turnbuckles? Are they different for say a box scraper then they are for a dirt scoop?
Thanks

I'm working red clay/gravel. They use it alot around here to build county roads. It hardens like concrete.

Maybe it's a weight thing. My tractor may weigh more than others in this size.

I only know about my tractor and Box Blade. Your experiences are obviously different.

I share the Box Blade with my brother. He has a New Holland TC30. He wanted the 5' box. I thought it would be too much for my tractor; however, that hasn't been the case.

Kevin, if you have 20 horse at the PTO, you probably have more at the wheels, right? Sounds like the original poster had 19 at the wheels, which would make for a different situation...

I'd be -very- surprised if he had a higher drawbar hp than pto hp. ( net engine, yes... )

Thanks for all the input. And yes my Bolens/Iseki is 19hp 4wd. The 5 ft box with the rippers down all the way did/does get into some tree roots. I just raised the rippers and adjusted the top link. It so far is doing what I had hoped it would do. Again, thanks for all of the help.
PS: Going back after a 4 ft. box isn't an option as I bought the 5 ft one at a Homier tool sale this past weekend. I thought Hey my tractor is just over 5 feet wide so it should work without leaving a lot of tire tracks. And yeah, we have rocks and clay in Western Maryland. EL

Get one of the $70 quick hitches from Harbor Freight, and the top link adaptor. You'll never have to adjust your sway chains again.

I was going through todays mail and I got a Harbor Freight ad with a $69.00 quick hitch on the front cover. Got to play with my tractor some more today so I'm getting on to all of the adjustments you guys told me about. I just had another heart procedure, my 7th stent, so I haven't been cleared to go back to work yet. I tell my wife....... I'm not working I'm playing with my tractor. She thinks it's work but really it makes me feel better. Bolens Therapy I guess.

Well you are one stent ahead of me. Hope I don't need a seventh, but maybe it'd be the lucky number.
