I have a 54 Ford tractor and want to get a good 3 point rototiller but also keeping price in mind. I have only about 1/2 acre garden plot, but to have a power tiller which would dig down nice and deep would be so helpful. Would love to hear from any of you who have some experience with different brands out there. Some have better drives, some have more tines, some can dig deeper... The only consideration I might say is that I do have problems with some big rocks in this soil so I can't get one which might break easily if it hit something. Thanks for your recommendations... can't wait to hear from you!

King Kutter has a reputation for being very robust and dependable at a very good price.

An issue I've seen mentioned multiple times when addressing older Ford tractors is the high ground speed (even in 1st gear) and using a tiller. I have a Kubota L2800 and I generally use my tiller in 1st low gear, which is about 1mph (or less. I have clocked my tractor in 4th low at 2.5mph). With the 1st hear speed of a NAA being 3.6mph they say it just sort of skips over the dirt or that you have to make multiple passes to get it done.
All of that is of course mute if you have a step-down transmission that gives you the lower ground speeds.

Here is one thread talking about Ford tractors and tilling.

Thanks for the info so far, and DaveR, I do have a Sherman step down trans for this tractor... Good point!

I would agree with AaronS on the King Kutters. I use a professional 4ft which is the size recommended in my owners manual. I also use a two bottom breaking plow to turn over my ground before tilling. That helps a lot.

I agree with DaveR. Breaking the ground first with a bottom plow is a TREMENDOUS assist. Then follow up with your rototiller. It also saves a lot of wear/tear on your rototiller, driveline and ultimately the tractor.

I found a 5' KK II on CL last year and although I've only put about 8 hours on it I'm very pleased with it.

If you've run a walk behind there's a great difference in the quality of life.
