All:

After my previous post with the 3 point not going down, I took some advice from fellow members and changed the hydro filter and made sure fluid was at the correct level.

Good new is that the 3 point goes up and down, the bad news is that now it will not hold a steady up position. What I mean by this is when I move the lever to an up position (1" up or all the way up) the arm drops an inch or so and then it raises it back to the correct level. It will keep doing this and depending on the speed of the engine can really bounce the tractor. I current have a 6' boxblade on so all that weight going up and down really shakes you up.

Does this sound like anything anyone has ever seen? Could it be the valve for the 3 point, and if so how difficult is this to fix?

BTW, the FEL does work fine.

Thanks again for all your help.

Brandon

Yup, I had the same problem with a 2001 4100 3-point (up and down motion out of control). Had it hauled in under warrantee. They found a metal shaving in a valve (relief valve? I forgot). They also changed the filter and fluid, under warrantee. I had to pay transport though, that's not warranteed.
I read your post 'cause I think I have another hydraulic problem now. This time with the loader valve though. Time to haul it in again. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Jim,

How old was your unit when this happened? I am assuming that I am out of luck with my 2000 4200. How long are they under coverage from JD anyway?

I guess I just need to buy the service manual and dive into it.

Thanks,

Brandon

I am guessing that Jim was correct about something being stuck in the valve. This evening I went out and turned the drop speed wheel to the fastest possible location and ran the engine at full speed while raising and then dropping the boxblade over and over. Suddenly the boxblade stayed at the location I set it...I guess the piece of debris in the valve got knocked out, I am back in action now /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
