Helly dirt farmer, just what will this thing do anyway. If i start it on sod ground when ground is fairly soft not august hardpan, will it do anything and how many trips to break the soil up a few inches? Also any other comments on what you didnt like about it or how they worked would be great. I need the 3 point hitch model for sure for convenience so try not to talk me out of it but if you have to I will listen.

Biggest difference is frame ( box or angle ).. whether the gangs are adjustable.. and whether they have sealed or grey iron bearings.

Soundguy

Cheaper units will have non adjustable angle iron frames with grey iron bearings.. etc.

2 weekends ago(it was dry then).. I picked up my pull behind adj. disc harrow I bought from a farmer about 2 miles down the road. I had to bring a wagon to set it on to tow back to the farm. Don't even know what brand it is.. it's pretty old.. has the holders on top to set blocks on it.. there is a little yellow paint left on it.

Well my wagon was a bit small.. and the disk set was so heavy.. that the FEL arms would only raise it about a foot off the ground.. using the bucket curl I was able to raise it high enough to get the wagon under it.

Once I got back to the farm I hooked it up and tested it on a field I had plowed in the fall/winter. The soil was just at the right moisture level for being worked.. and the disk worked great.. so I finished a single pass on the entire field.

Well the farmer said it was 7 foot.. but I measured and front set of disks measured 8ft across.. the rear disks covered a spread of about 10ft. it has 14 disc's on front set & 14 on the rear. The front set has brand new replacement disc's on them. I am def. happy w/ the way it worked.. happier that I only had to pay $200 for it. I'll have to take some pictures.

He also had another disk set w/ hydralic wheel lifts he was giving away for free for hauling it away.. he said it needs fixing.. and the parts would cost quite a bit. I might have to go get it to add to my implement graveyard.. just for the steel.

Roto,, I`m looking at the same brand have a pamplet on them here now. Tufline TL43.The 6'8'' has four different arrangements and weights rangeing from 1,189 lbs to 1,342 lbs. I`m looking at the 6'4' 1,247 lbs. With those weights if your tractor can pull it adequately it should cutt through even hard pan with no problems. Down here i got a price quote of $1,250 a couple of months ago.I`m trying to deside if i need this heavy duty of a unit for not a lot of use, unless i start working the tractor on the side.

Sounds lika a good deal. The model Im looking at is same but next series lighter. That price must not have included the adjustable scrapers that run around $300 but still a great deal. these units seem to be very tough. Im still thinking about it!!
