On my 1984 ford 1710 the 3 pt as started leaking up when I'm using it. The control lever for raising and lowering the 3 pt moves on its own as it does this. If I hold the control lever or put a stop behind it then the 3pt does not leak up any more.

What would cause the lever to move on its own and raise the 3 pt?

Loader does leak up or down. 3 pt and loader share same hydraulic pump.

Check to see if there is a friction disc / tension nut on that model.

I'm not up on the jap compacts ford sold...

I'll look at the mechanism a little closer. I just do not remeber seeing a place to tighten the lever.

The mechanism is for sure different than the old fords.

i grabbed the diagrams from CNH.. the plain 1710 digram don't show much.. the 1710 draft control diagram has more detail.

I see some washers.. so those might be the friction control adjustment... hard to say without a master parts catalog in my hands... and i don't have one for that model.

RickB may know off the top of his head though.

Looks like nut # 35 and 14 adjust washers I think that might be a place to start.

There is a low and high adjustment for the lever in pic 1 and 2, that should not be your problem. On pic 3 below a bracket where the main control arm rod is and #14 is where you tighten it.

Thanks guys,

JC, I believe you are talking about that larger nut that is just peeking out from behind the shield/shroud and is against the casing under the seat.

I'll try and tighten that nut when it gets a little warmer outside.

Yes, I did not have a better picture from the side. There are couple of washers behind the nut to adjust the friction. I don't think the nut has to be real tight , just enough for the lever to move solidly without slippage.
