YM2200
Hello everyone-
I have a YM2200 with a weak 3 pt lift, that I am having a hard time fixing. I feel stupid for having bought it without doing more homework re:parts availability. The FEL works fine, so I think the pump is OK. I have changed the oil and cleaned the filter. I pulled the valve and hydraulic cylinder and took them to my local hydraulic shop, who said the cylinder was not rebuildable, so I purchased a used unit. It did not work at all so I took both units back to the shop and they did what they could and rebuilt my original with new seals. They said the used one I bought was worse internally than my original. It is perhaps a bit better now, but still weak. Seems better when the hydraulic oil is cool, then weakens as it gets warm so it cannot lift a light 4ft box blade. I am getting pretty good at taking the **** thing apart, but am also growing frustrated. The hot/cold thing suggests to me that the seals are still bad. Seeking advice as to next step- try another used assembly? try another hydraulic shop? try to find a "real" mechanic? does this sound like the ram or is the valve more likely the culprit? am I even working on the right part of the machine? should I sell the **** thing as is and buy a new JD?

I assume that is what the shop did. I could not figure out how to even disassemble the valve from the cylinder.

John,

Has anyone adjusted the pressure relief valve on the controls for the FEL? Typically the hydraulic circuit flows through your FEL valve and, under pressure, back to the lift arms. This (loader valve) may be starving fluid pressure away from the 3 point.

Nobody has messed with it. Is it something that can go out of adjustment on its own?

Weak.. as in a relief is kicking in.. or oil is bypassing the cyl.

Do you have an inspection port so you can look for leaks in the cyl when lifting. or can you check the relief line to the sump and see if it is indeed flowing when your lift is weak. A sticky relief valve is a mena thing to find sometimes.

Bottom line.. if the laoder is on the same hyd circuit.. and the laoder works fine.. you have a loss of hyd pressure somewhere.. either at a valve, bypassing a cylinder, or from a relief/check, or at a gasket where something mates up...

What is the method of operation for the 3pt control valve on that unit.. is it an unloading style valve ( any dealer know? )

I don't know anything about hydraulics or FEL's but for trouble shooting purposes I would start by disconnecting/bypassing the FEL and see if it affects the 3ph. If you are removing assemblies and taking to the hydraulic shop, it sounds like they are working on the wrong stuff. By cleaning the "hydraulic filter" I assume you mean the pickup screen inside the differential.

Apparently the YM2200's came in 2 styles, one (mine) with a separate sump for the hydraulics vs tranny. There is an inspection port, but the cylinder is completyely submerged so I cannot tell if there is a leak there. By filter I meant the little screen.

I have the same problem as John. I think I can fix the problem if I had a schematic to look at. I can not find a diagram the the hydraulic. Does anyone know where I should look. Have tried Hoye's, but they don't have it. They sent a 240 manual - but the two systems are different.

Pull the top cover off and look inside. You can see the ram cylinder. The big octagonal plate forward needs the pipe disconnected, then pull the bolts and you can remove the valve and ram together. No need to disconnect the lift arm pushrod, it just slides out.
