I have 2 old pallet jacks. One has a bad jack, both have bad wheels. Since the wheels cost almost as much as a new jack. I have been trying to figure out what I could make with them. Today it came to me, remove the lift mechanisim, weld on some pins and a bracket on top for the link and I have 3PT forks! It will have limited capabilities but what dosen't.

Be careful. Pallet jack forks are not designed to carry loads like fork lift forks. It is the lifting mechanism that you are removing that carries the load.

Gizmo has a very good point. Pallet carts carry on the wheels that are mounted underneath the forks, not from one end off. I think you need to weld some reinforcements underneath them to allow them to take the bend forces of 3pt hitch application.

Does any one have a picture of a pallet lift that they have made for a 3PH

I have built 3pt pallet forks. These are very heavy duty and were designed to lift at least what the 3pt could lift. I am not sure if this is what you are looking for but it will give you an idea of what can be done. The forks themselves are 2" x 3" x 3/16" rectangle tubing.

Nope, but I have several pictures :D

Mine comes apart into 4 pieces so it is easy to store. I used a toplink pin to hold the backplate to the 3pt A frame.

I strongly recommend a hydraulic toplink, it makes life much easier!

Thanks for the Pics, now all I have to do is find a set of forks. Bob it looks as if you use pats quick hitches, how do you feel about them? I was thinking of getting a set, especially after reading about all the bad luck people have had with HF hitch.

Pat's is great IF you change implements on a regular basis AND:
  • IF your current implements have various A frame dimensions and/or
  • IF you regularly use a PHD
However, I would choose a quality Quick Hitch system (perhaps a JD iMatch or LandPride)
  • IF my implements were all of standard configuration
  • IF I did not often use a PHD
When I bought my Pat's system, I could not have used a traditional Q.H. system because it would not fit all the implements I owned at the time. I eventually sold/traded several implements and now all my implements are of standardized configuration. Still I use the Pat's system because I frequently use a PHD and only the Pat's system allows you to use a PHD. All the traditional Q.H. systems must be removed when using a PHD. Installing a PHD with the Pat's System is not painless, but it is a heck of a lot easier than without it.

I made one exactly as you are thinking and it has never failed, I have picked up and moved 2000 lbs that is as much as the tractor will pickup and the front wheels still be on the ground ;)) Without a hyd toplink they are very hard to use if moving pallets on rough ground.
