3-Pt Shudder

I have a Branson tractor that is doing same thing. Drives me crazy. But mine clears up when it is well warmed up, and is mostly a cold temperature thing, such as about anything under 65 degrees. A fellow member suggested that it could be an o ring in the 3 point lift piston and cylinder that leaked some fluid when cold, and causing the position control to try and compensate frequently and hiccup, and then when fluid was warm, and piston and o ring was warm, it swelled or expanded enough to stop the fluid leakage, and the position control now did not have to compensate every second or so.

I have done some research , and thinking on this, and perhaps a hydraulic oil additive that swells the o rings and seals a little to stop leaking might be an answer, without major breakdown and repair.

A couple of additives I found were:

Lucas Hydraulic Oil Booster and Stop Leak
Primrose 532-T Seal Saver

Maybe this could help your issues.

Yes it is a 3-point implement. With the engine running and the implement is raised, the implement will slowly fall and then the hydraulics abruptly raises it back up. With the engine off, the implement will slowly lower to the ground. Could this be due to air in the system?
Is the control valve the draft or the SLOW/FAST setting? How is this valve accessed to inspect? Thanks for your help.

Ahh.. you are describing more of a 'bobbing'.. not a shudder..

bobbing is indicative of a leak and regeneration within a circuit. .. in many cases it is the piston cyl.. not the control valve.. but could actually be anywhere int he pressure circuit.. like a gasket or oring.

got any inspection covers to pull and look for leaks?

Hey Soundguy,

We just got the injector pump back on our Kubota L260 after almost a year of sitting up and we found our lift is leaking down and jerking back up in the same way as Rockin' G Ranch discribes.

What's going on???

sounds like the same stuff I just explained... leak in the pressure curcuit..

When you are bouncing along it is the draft system that is doing the small jerks on the 3pt. the bleeding is a worn O ring. It isn't hard to fix. you will have to take the seat off and the top deck on the tranny. Before you start the teardown. Have the hyd pick the rocker arms all the way up. This will force the piston as far out of the cylinder as possible. This will make it easy to get hold of to pull out and replace the O ring.

an air blow gun with a rubber nipple on the end is great for popping 3pt pistons out of the cyl bore... find the pressure hole inthe cyl and a lil air usually pops it out into your hand.. that's how i o my fords.. etc..
