I am thinking of building my own 3 pt sprayer ... Seeing how I have 99% of the stuff anyhow and just need to put it all together.
So without counter weights (hills are not a problem I am in Fl) will a 55 gl plastic drum full be too much for the bx1800 or should I keep it at about 30 gls or so.

I have the drum and a 12 pump that was in a camper and a lot of mico-jet type sprinklers.
and even the lite gage steel for the boom arms.....anout all I would have to by are the pens for the 3 pt hook up

Seems to me this would be way to simple to build to buy one at the cost they are

Chucko,

You might consider getting some suitcase weights for the front of your tractor as counterweights. If you do that, I don't think a 55 gallon drum would be too much weight for the bx 3-pt to hoist.

The suitcase weights could come off when you mow.

I just don't want to deal with the weights (yea yea I know it's easy but I am lazy)

anyhow if the pt will hold the drum I will use it and maybe just not fill it up all the way

I guess I should have posted this in Buil-it-yourself hu?

Chucko, a gallon of water weighs in at about 8 pounds. So depending on what you are spraying, and assuming a full drum from the start, the contents of the drum will weigh a minimum of about 440#. Assuming you add things to the water, the weight might go up to about 500# for the liquid. Assume the drum and the brackets and the pump and possibly a 12volt battery, etc. You might be looking at a maximum weight of about 650-to-700 pounds for a fully loaded sprayer set up. Going down to a 30 gallon drum would take shave about 200# off the total weight bringing it at 450-to-500 pounds fully loaded.

I would think that the 3pt would easily lift the maximum 700# of the 55 gallon drum of water, but the front end of your tractor will probably be pretty light. A 30 gallon drum might be better suited to your tractor if you don't want to deal with front end weights.

Or you could use this to justify getting a bigger tractor. . . /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Thganks Bob that was about the same as a came up with....As far as a bigger tractor goes I just got this one last Friday so I better wait for a little while .....and I might need to get a little more land also

Does the bx1800 have a "hot" wire somewhere in the back that I could use to powere the pump......I guess I could tap into the tail light

Chucko:

Congratulations on the new tractor. I'm in the process of putting together a spray rig for my JD CUT. Although the rig I have has a switch on the pump which is mounted on the 25 gallon tank, I can't reach it from the tractor seat.

What I'll probably do is hard wire a fused line to a waterproof swith on the tractor dash somewhere then run a pigtail off that to a female plug somewhere under the seat. I'll hook up the spray rig with a male plug to the pigtail.

Otherwise, I'd have to turn the pump on, run to the tractor and get going, all the while the sprayer is dumping chemicals, etc.

Since I don't weld, I'm going to install the 25 gallon tank with pump, spray wand rig, and 140" folding spray boom all on a reinforced pallet. I'm going to use a "T" and valves so I can use the spray wand or spray boom, and will also have the excess return to the tank off another "T" for when the pump puts out more than I need to spray so it doesn't cycle on and off.

I have a 1,000# capacity 3 pt set of pallet forks which will lift it to the right height, 15" - 18" off the ground. If this works, I may get a more permanent carryall setup to handle this.

I'm also going to set up a portable fused "extension" cord with an inline switch, battery clamps at one end and a female plug on the other so I can use this rig at a monestary on their tractor when I go there to help out.

The pallet and pump will weigh under 75#s and the pallet carryall is about 80#s so I can break them down and handle them separately and put them in the back of my Cherokee or in a small trailer for quick and easy transport.

Without weights on the front of your short wheelbase BX 1800, and a full tank in the back you might "hobbyhorse" around some. You can always try it and add weights if necessary.

Enjoy your new tractor.

I "think" I can build it all with lite gage steel we have here for building trusses. The good thing about this is I can use screws to holt it together and do little to no welding

Tapping into the tail light works great for a sprayer. Just hang a pigtail with connector, then turn the lights on when wanting the sprayer to run.

Bob is right.

This is even righter.

One gallon (in volume) is equivalent to 3,785 cubic centimeters (i.e. 3,785 cm^3). If the density of water is assumed to be exactly 1.0 g/cm^3, then the mass of one gallon of water would be 3,785 g (from 3,785 cm^3 x 1.0 g/cm^3 = 3,785 g). And 3,785 g of water is equivalent to 8.346 lb. near the earth's surface because a 1,000 g mass near the earth's surface would weigh about 2.205 lb. However, the density of water varies somewhat with temperature and pressure, so the exact weight of a gallon of water might vary a little from the number given here because it is assumed that the water density is exactly 1.0 g/cm^3 and this is an approximation.

8.34 lbs x 55 = 458.7lbs. not including ANYTHING else as mentioned.

Eat a lot o pizza an make that a mid PTO sprayer mounted on the front of your machine! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If the sprayer is front mount you would drive through your spray an inhale all the nasty chemicals you probably don't want anywhere inside your lungs. I like the rear mount concept better. Actually I like organic solutions combined with a rear mount sprayer.
