Re: 3 pt. won\'t stay up

The water can come from condonsation?? HOt oil in the cold. Also make sure that their are not 2 drain plugs to your tranny. There was on my ford and boy did I have fun till I figured that out!I also had water in my oil, alot of winter use that year. I would also call Kubota maybe it was a misprint in the manule???

Re: 3 pt. won\'t stay up

Yellow and foamy is not good that is a sign of water from condensate or rain fill cap leak, vent leak, dipstick are all possible areas of entry.
To be on the safe side call the dealer and see what the spec is for the oil to be used for the system. Its possible that a typo exists in the manual.
Reguardless you will need to flush the system like Wen said using the proper oil (whatever kind is correct for your tractor) and also ask the dealer if you have a filter it's possible that you don't just the screens.
Does your three point work very slow until warm?

Re: 3 pt. won\'t stay up

Bird: my 1980 is a gear transmission. I will look for a filter when I get back home later this week, but I know that the layout has changed somewhat between '80 and '95. I will also scour may parts and owners manuals again for any reference to a filter for this area. Thanks, Chris

Re: 3 pt. won\'t stay up

Gordon: other than not staying up, it works fine (speed wise) in both directions even when cold. I will drain again, look for any and all filters, and double check the fluid specs. Thanks for all the replies.

Re: 3 pt. won\'t stay up

We're into something that I know nothing about, but if it's a gear transmission, then I would expect gear oil to be correct, and I would suspect that there is no filter. And that's pure speculation./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Re: 3 pt. won\'t stay up

Bird,
It's not unheard of to use gear oil in a hydrostatic. My old Simplicity 3416H, a 16hp w/hydro, uses gear oil. I think the hydo unit was made by Vickers and built in the late 70's.

Re: 3 pt. won\'t stay up

Chris

When you changed the fluid, did it drip out like molasses (gear oil) or come out looking like light engine oil (UDT)? UDT is light enough that it will splash but gear oil will not. I have never seen a 1980 model tractor that did not use UDT which is simply lubricating type hydraulic fluid if it had a hydraulic system. Can you imagine the mess if you put a loader with hydraulic cylinders on a tractor that had 90 weight gear oil in it? A gear type transmission and rear axle won't care, but where the rub comes is what is the hydraulic pump and hydraulic actuator for the 3 point going to do with gear oil instead of hydraulic fluid? I would think the hydraulic pump will pump more air than hydraulic fluid and not be able to develop full system pressure.

Please re-read the manual and hope they give specifications for the hydraulic fluid that include UDT or call a Kubota dealer and see if they agree.

Please let us know what you find out.

Re: 3 pt. won\'t stay up

Bird,

If it wasn't for this board, I wouldn't think there was any other transmission except a gear transmission. All the gear trannys I have seen use UDT or John Deere's name for it. I still have 15 gallons of it that look like new that I am trying to figure out how to recycle.

They all had hydraulic filters, but were reachable from under the tractor by taking 3 screws loose and then a nut up inside the rear axle to release a metal screen filter that has to be cleaned anytime the oil is changed. My Kubota has a wonderful External Cartridge filter!

My front axle says 90 W or UDT or Super UDT is ok, My tiller uses 90W, and my mower uses 90W. The rear axle of my Jeep Cherokee uses only SYNTHETIC 90W and it is not even Amsoil! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif.

Re: 3 pt. won\'t stay up

Chris,
I forget to mention my Kubota B7100HST and for some strange reason I thought you also had a HST.

If your manual says to use that type of fluid than there must be a reason.

If I was uncertain I would take a trip to my local dealership and ask a question or two.

I would be most interested in your out come.

Take Care.
