The fuel looked fine. When I filled the bowl for the first time I let it sit for about 1/2 hour while I went to the store. When I got back the bowl looked even in color. The first time I took the bowl off and found no fuel in it I did find a few globs of brown slimmey matter at the bottom of the bowl. I fill the tractor with the same 5 gal can and only use diesel from the filling station.

Keep a eye on that bowl because if you blew something back into the tank , it's still there. Hopefully the 911 will keep it in suspension do the filter can get it out. I'd drain it before and after each use.
Glad you're back in operation!

When I put the fuel in the tank tonight I almost could not turn the fuel cap. Do you think this could be indicating a venting problem? Does the cap have a vent in it?

I don't believe you have a venting fuel cap. But if you had problems turning the cap off I would be checking the vent on the tank also (it's probably the rollover valve on the top of the tank). I had a problem with our TC45DA fuel cap vent. While using the tractor in a back field late around dusk (naturally bit of a walk back in the dark) it stalled and would not restart. After towing it back into the lighted shop we noticed that the fuel tank had begun collapsing and by loosening the very tight cap with a hiss it returned to normal and the tractor then started right up. We cleaned the vent on the fuel cap that we found totally blocked. Lesson learned now whenever we fuel it we clean the vent.
