3054 stuck in 4WD

Thanks for the reply. The blue pedal/lever is what I've been fiddling around with. The machine is definitely in 4WD (the front wheels spin very nicely through the snow) but the pedal is down as far as it can go, right up against the transmission casing. It does feel like it's trying to pop into 2WD when I give it a shove, but fails to lock in.

Better to have it stuck in 4WD than 2WD, I guess.
Farmernot, I re-read your post and see you mention the level (should be lever, not pedal) is down. In the down position (per the manual and my very frequent use of it) the FWD is NOT engaged.
If the FWD is engaged as you say, it sounds as if the linkage may not be attached. Something to fix when the snow is all gone, but it couldn't hurt to look. See if you can pull UP on the lever - maybe it's not in FWD after all. The only way you could be sure the front wheels are engaging would be to have all four wheels off the ground and see if a front one spins. Unless someone else has a better suggestion.

The lever goes into the up position just fine. It also goes right down to the point where you can feel that it's trying to pop into 2WD but just won't. Basically, if the lever's up or down, my tractor's in 4WD.

And believe me, it is in 4WD. Not only can this old, ex-farmer feel the front wheels working (especially around corners) but balding turf tires wouldn't otherwise perform this well in fairly deep snow. :D

Once the weather warms up, I'll likely open up the casing to see what's going on ... if some of the other simpler techniques mentioned here don't solve the problem.

Ok re-checked the 4wd lever yesterday. When it is in 2wd there should be a couple of inches at least between the lever handle and the tranny case from the look of things for finger clearance. Might just be disconnected as earlier mentioned.

Yup, mine has the same clearance - the lever is not sitting on the casing. Sure sounds like something is disconnected, but at least it disconnected in the best operating mode for this time of year.

Howdy,
The only thing I can add is that mine always goes into 4wd ok but when I try to put it back into 2wd I usually pull forward, then put it in reverse. As I'm engaging the clutch, I'll continually push on the lever as I start backwards. It'll move slightly and then the lever will drop into 2wd as I continue to push it. It doesn't seem that this is your problem, but it may help.
