I was checking fence rows yesterday & had part of a 2 trunk oak fallen into another tree, Go get the tractor & pulling rope, 310 & head back in the 90 degree plus heat.
Pull the fallen one out of the other tree, fire the 310 up, this thing sounds great , measure off my cuts, it's 40' long & straight.
All went well until i drain tank & try to start saw, rope pulls out & it sounds like something is stripped, no resistance. With the cover pulled, the rope feels good with a little resistance to it & rewinds great.
Once again, i'm after your Guru thought's on this problem, i'm thinking rewind spring before i get to involved, your thought's appreciated.

Sounds like the spring that causes the starter pawl/engagement system to engage the gear on the flywheel has a broken part. Like you said - I would start with the rewind spring and go from there.

The rewind spring wasn't broken, did notice a black part on the top side looked to be broken, going by the dealer in the morning to see if i can get it w/o having to buy the whole assembly.

It woundup being the black pawl on top, a 2 dollar & change part. It took both the wife & i to get that blame spring re-wound, tried several times & got close on my own, the extra hands helped.
Now i need to decide if i need the 310 & 029 both being they are so close together in size.
