I've stayed out of the fray with Ramon, primarily since I'm a novice at this stuff. But your observation pretty much explains why I pay no attention to him anymore.
In 20 hours of usage last week on my new 3130, I saw black smoke twice...as you pointed out, it was obvious why it was happening. Throttle set too low, and/or foot too heavy on the pedal. I can't understand how anyone can continiously see black smoke and not understand this, particularly somebody who supposedly has tons of operator experience.
As to my satisfaction with the power - I had zero complaints, even with the filled R4's. But then again, I was educated going into the purchase, and had a good idea what to expect. Like many others who have this tractor, I'm in no rush - I'm quite content to keep the thing in low 90% of the time, and when necessary, just took smaller bites than a large machine could.
It drug my 72" 580 lb. box blade with rippers set all the way down effortlessly. And I was skidding huge (to me) piles of alders to the burn pile - many of the loads were 8-10 50' trees w/ 10-12" trunks. Again - not fast at 2-3MPH, but that certainly met my expecations.
Big thiumbs up here...for my needs so far, I couldn't be happier.
