Possibly, but it will require rear PTO. The 42 hydraulic does not.

Not to start a paint war here, but your comment about the BX23 doing "twice as good" leads me to believe you've never worked with a 455. I tested a BX2300 when I bought my 455, and I am not sure I agree with you at all. At least as far as mowing goes, I think the 455 cuts faster and with equal or more power. Once you equip a 455 with 3pt hitch and PTO, 4wd is the only advantage the BX series has. If I had been buying new, I probably would have gone with a BX2300 (have hoe and loader on my CUT) over a new John Deere X5XX or X7XX, but finding a used 455 for less than half what I would have spent on the BX made it a "no-brainer".

If I buy That JD 455 I will then have these Brands::cool:
Kubota
Cub Cadet
John Deere
& 2 Bolens
Starting a paint war for me would be like attacking myself.

I absolutely agree that the 455 would probably be better for mowing... that's why I suggested he use it for that. The BX being 4wd and heavier would be a LOT better for tilling or front blade work... which is why I suggested he use it for that. It is not even about the color of the tractor. This is about one rig being made heavier than the other and already having a PTO and 3PT. The BX weighs in around 1500lb w/ROPs and your 455 aroung 1200 w/AWS. The 4WD makes a HUGE difference as well. I have tilled a lot on a compact - without 4wd You will constantly be spinning rear tires on some soils. The blade work.. Well I don't even think we need to mention how 4WD helps with that.

I would NEVER equip a 455 with a 3pt. and PTO. By the time you spend the money to do that and then go buy proprietary JD equipment, you could get a nice SCUT and buy implements anywhere. I never understood why guys do that. Someone said they saw a 42" JD tiller on e-bay for $1400. That is a rediculous amount of money for a used tiller that small.

I agree with buying the 455... I just wouldn't Tugg with my sailboat and sail with my tugboat... : )

1*I do have a BX23 with 3pt. and rear 540 pto.
2* Not exactly. I have a CC 2554 and am thinking about buying a JD 455. I haven't decided yet which one of the 2 to put A front blade and rear tiller on.
3*I agree but The BX23 won't Dig with a BH and till at the same time. Hence the purpose of another tractor.
A smaller tractor Such as The CC 2554 or the JD 455 set up with front blade and a rear tiller will be able to get into the areas that I can't get into to operate/use the BX23.
4* I thought of that, but I'm also considering using the CC 2554 for that. Which one to mow with won't be determined until I decide which on to set up with a tiller and front blade.
5*The BX23 has a FEL but there again I need the blade on something smaller for operating in tight areas.

Sounds like you have a good problem... wish I had all those options...and equipment to try to figure out which to use. : )

When you put a 3 pt and PTO on a 455 it is exactly like the 3 pt and PTO on a BX. Limited Cat 1 and 540 rpm. You can use absolutely any make of SCUT attachments, just like a BX. You do not have to buy JD proprietary equipment.

The JD 42 inch hydraulic tiller that sold for 1400 dollars is a very unique piece of equipment. It is one of the few tillers that can be hooked to a large GT and run in either forward or reverse. It is a rock solid design that has been around for years. I don't have any tiller, yet. But I would pay more for the versatility of the 42 hydraulic than I would for a KK XB series -- which by the way is no great bargain itself. Sure wish you would point me to all these cheap tillers you're talking about.

The hydraulic tiller for my CC GT2554 is $2700.
I paid $800 for the tiller for the CC 2554.

All other points aside, does everyone agree a good used 455 is worth $1600 more than a good used 318? I don't believe I am mistaken that both tractors can/will use most of the same attachments and those attachments will have equal availability and cost for either tractor.

Yeh, I guess if the guy has so much money burning a hole in his pocket that he needs a dedicated tractor for every job... he wouldn't care what it costs to add 3pt. and PTO to a GT.

We could argue all day about the differences between these two... The fact remains that one is a GT (Yes it is a heavy GT) and the other is a SCUT. The Kubota has a cat. 1, not limited according their specs. It probably has more gound clearance, lift capacity etc. But you know what... I Really don't care.. If you want to post some real specs for yours, lift, gound clearance, etc. I'll shut-up and be a 455 advocate myself if it compares to the Kubota.

I agree the 455 is worth 1600 more, but your last statement is not accurate. The 318 has a high speed rear PTO, making attachments harder to come by. I am not sure that any new equipment is made for that system. The 318 and 455 have very few common attachments, and what few there are require very different mounting systems (front blade as an example).
