Another difference between jurisdictions. A mate of mine bought a 70hp USA brand tractor with cab and level lift FEL , cost here in the order of $50 to $60K compared with a similar hp and size chinese tractor with ROPS (not cab) and level lift FEL of sub $33K. One tractor made in China and the other in Eastern Europe. Another well known US based brand sells tractors here that are made in India. Mexico and Brazil make some "big-name" tractors for sale in the US. We are now in a global manufacturing market and sales market, that is a fact.
In an earlier post I mentioned that horsepower is now not the only way to gauge a tractor's relative size. A neighbour, impressed by the performance of my Fotons ( he had driven the smaller 504) went and bought a 55hp tractor with cab and loader for about $22K landed but found it to be a little light for handling a 5x4 cereal hay roll whereas my 604 (60 hp) easily handles two rolls the same size, in fact baled by that neighbour. The difference is that his 55 hp tractor is more a compact, ie shorter wheelbase, narrower track, smaller wheel size and altogether lighter.
The Chinese tractors have not yet evolved a dealer network here, and most dealers are but trying to break into the market. One notable exception is Mahindra that has been taken on by a dealer that handles a US Branded tractor. Not even the Japanese or European tractors have a widespread dealer base here, there are regional niches but not really statewide. Given that this State is 1 million sq miles and a population of only 2.3 million most of whom (80%) live within a 30 mile wide coastal strip from 40 miles north of Perth to 200 miles South of Perth, there are enormous challenges in providing dealer services.
Our market is minuscule on the world stage but has manufacturers from Europe, Asia, India, and the US all vying for market share.
