yanmar 336D
I happened upon a 336D at a dealer here in CT. It only has 300 hours on it and, based on the condition, looks to be true! Asking price is $9000 which includes a Deere brush hog. This one is not a grey tractor either, but marketed by Yanmar several years ago I believe. Fair?

It looks like a nice tractor and from comments in other posts has a good rep. It's quite a bit bigger than I thought I'd end up with (been shopping smaller Mahindras, etc). Compared to the other Deeres in the dealer lot that cost over 15K, seems like a lot of tractor!

I'd have to get bucket for it somewhere. Also, it has a "power shift", a lever that has R-N-1-2-3 positions on the left side of the steering column. Not familiar with that. Could you fill me in?

Any thoughts on this, folks? Thanks!

The power shift is an auto clutching feature. once you are in a range you can shift between the gears within that range without using the clutch. very nice for loader work etc where there are a lot of speed and direction changes. Ther should be a couple of companies that make a good loader for a 336, koyker,Allied and woods come to mind. 336 was the top of the line of Yanmar USA.

In my opinion theYM336 was the best tractor that Yanmar ever had. I have two of them. That seems like a reasonable price with that few hours on it. If you don't buy it, let me know where it is, I would be interested in it. I can supply you with a Great Bend loader for it. The GB330 is a very heavy duty loader, much better than any other I have seen.

Well - here's an update. I went and drove the 336D and love it! I especially like how the powershift works. Very smooth to change speeds and direction. I bet it is a challege to manage a joystick, steering and the powershift selector when doing loader work....I guess you need three hands. But, the tractor is nice, so we're negotiating.

Gary has been a big help in getting me info, so am considering whether to get a loader for it.

Stay tuned. I attached a picture. Thanks for the help so far!

Hey - forgot a question....
One of the mchanics at the dealer said that the 336 is the same as the JD 950. He said it seemed similar to him. That true? Are parts interchangable?

Well, JD parts might or might not fit, why would you take a chance? Your JD dealer would have to work with a tractor that is not his brand, partnumbers are not the same (even for an identical part)Why not just get Yanmar parts? Yanmar made exellent parts and shopmanuals. Partsupply for the US yanmars is not an issue, it is exellent, I have yet to find a part that they didn't have in stock or were able to get on short notice in Japan. My suggestion would be to get the manuals , and if you need a part you can call Gary (or any other YM dealer), tell him you need a PN----- and have it shipped to your door the next day, guaratied to fit. If you are not mechanicly inclined you can always have the JD dealer put the parts on for you. I am sure that a lot of dealers won't have a problem doing that for you, saves them the hassle of trying to find parts for a non JD tractor. I have found that YM partsprices in general are reasonable. also, get genuine oil and hydraulic filters in stead of the NAPA equivelent, they are resonably priced and will not damage your $9000 investment

Some of the parts may be interchangeable, but not many. That beautiful 336D, I had two of them. one with ser no 000029, the auto shift was down between your legs and the newer one up on the dash. You will find it very handy there as you will be shifting with your little finger while steering and running the loader with the other hand. The Yanmars tranny is far superior to the JD and it has a two speed pto, which I mis terribly.
I have a complete set of books for the 336D, parts, service and operators from the time I bought mine. I paid 10500 for mine new with loader

Keep RBrumfield's purchase price in mind when you consider that the 336D was made between 1980 and 1991. That means it's got to be no LESS than 12-13 years old. Is it a three digit or four digit hour meter?

I Have a Yanmar loader that fits a 336 but it needs a few items new hoses and and 2 tilt cylinders and a bucket made. If it wasnt 2 far Id sell it cheap.
