336D with a sputtering problem

Hi, I'm new here so I hope someone can be helpful. I have a 336D that, when under load, will begin to sputter and quickly dies. This usually happens when I'm mowing and takes approx 20-30 minutes to happen. No warning lights come on. When this first started happening, I had the radiator rodded, cleaned and the engine flushed. This didn't help. I almost feel that this is a fuel problem, but I don't know where to start. Any hints would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome! I would drain the fuel and replace the filter. Check with Hoyes sight and it will tell you what is involved. Something that caught my attention was the Radiator being Rodded and in 20-30 min. start to happen Mowing. In that amount of time it almost sounds like it's getting Hot. A bad head gasket would be a common cause of that pressuring up the System. I believe 15 PSI. would be the Normal pressure. You can go to a Auto parts store and they can rent you the gauge to check for it. Not much to it!...

Easiest first, loosen the fuel cap in case vent plugged. bleed fuel system.

My 336 did that once. I checked filter and it had 1/2 water in it.

When I mowing one day I seen the air pressure at the fuel return line on my tank. Air bubbles a the connection. I had this vent off an old Dirt bike/ATV. that took care of that problem easily. Works great and been like this for Yrs...
