My tachometer stopped working any suggestions??
Any noise? If the problem is internal to the tach it was likely preceded by screeching.

Trace the cable from behind the tach down to the engine, be sure both ends are attached.

Inside the visible outer sheath is a wire that is rotated by the engine. You can detach the upper end and verify that the core spins when the engine is running.

Here's a photo of the underside of the dashboard on a smaller Yanmar. I had to remove it to replace the steering box on a prior YM186D.

This may give you some idea of what's under there, that you can only feel with your fingertips. A tiny miniature version of water pump pliers works well to detach the tach cable.
