3520 4WD will not engage

I have a new 3520 that I have 28 HRS on. I just got it back from the shop. They had to replace the compelte front axle. A bolt sheared off inside and made a mess of the gears. Now, the dealer dropped it off yesterday and today the tractor will not engage the front wheels when in all wheel drive. The light comes on, but the wheels don't spin. The dealer wants to charge me to pick the tractor up again and I am getting pretty mad. Does anyone know what may be causing the front axle not to engage??

Why should he be charging you to for a pickup? The tractor should still be under warranty at 28 hrs.. Your dealer also did the work on the front axle and brought it back not working. Right?

Unfortunately, I just moved and this is not the dealer where I purchased the tractor. But yes, you are right. They just returned it without it working.

How much you want to bet that the front axle drive shaft is still laying on the floor of the dealer's shop? Crawl under your tractor and see if there is a shaft running from under the middle of the tractor forward to the front axle. It will run just under the oil pan of the engine. If that is the problem, then the dealer mechanic should come to your place and put it on.

Another possibility is that the damage to the front axle caused the front wheel clutch to break. Jack up one side of the front axle and see if you can spin the wheel with the clutch engaged. If it and the drive shaft spin, then I would suspect the clutch.

Roger, you got it. NO front drive shaft. I was so irate when the thing didn't work, I didn't even want to look at the tractor. But this morning, with a calmer head, a few peeks around and no drive shaft. The dealer is "trying to locate it" now. Thanks a whole bunch for your knowledge. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
