I am new to this site. But I have a question that maybe someone can give me an answer too. I am considering a brush cutter for my 3520 fel. My question is if I put a power beyond kit in my tractor will it bump up the gpm in the 3rd scv. Right now it says the gpm is 8.6; will that increase with the power beyond kit.

If it does, what would the gpm be with the power beyond kit.

The brush cutter in question runs at 6-25 gpm

Brush cutters run off 3 point and pto! power beyond is not used for this only a bhoes.

The short answer to your question is NO, The PB kit will not "bump up" the GPM, that is set by the tractors pump, and is fixed.

The PB is just a line at the rear of the tractor that supplies a constant flow of hydraulic fluid to implements that have there own control valve like a logsplitter or backhoe.

If you told us what brushcutter that you are specifically looking at maybe we can help you better...

Oh, and WELCOME to TBN:D

The brushcutter is a skid steer model. And I was hoping to purchase the JD skid steer carrier and then run the hyd lines to the 3rd scv. The only concern I had was how do you turn the cutter on and off. If it is even possible.

Thanks for the input.

I do not think you will be happy with the results.
You could use a PTO driven hydraulic pump, and add a valve to control the cutter, but it will cost you about $400 to $600 to do that.

Is there a reason you don't want to use a PTO driven cutter?

Up in Northern MN, the only thing that grows good is aspen trees. There is no reason that a 3pt bh would not work fine. It just takes longer to clear brush. The skid steer brush cutters just fly through brush up here.

Did you have a certain unit in mind? I looked at a Rhino, but man are those things heavy! Personally, I'd look at adding a 3pt power pack (PTO pump, and fluid reservoir) as you will need ballast anyhow. If you find a unit that your tractor can handle let me know.

Oh yeah, look at heavier front tires for increased puncture resistance as the brush you cut will leave short spikes that can puncture.

Thanks for all the input. But I do believe the pto brush cutter will have to do.

After all once it is knocked down, all you have to do is keep up with cutting every year.

I think that's a good choice. I've also had decent luck either shearing with the bucket or ripping small stuff right out of the ground. In winter the poplars shear off pretty easily.

How do you like the mx 5, I got a brochure for those and they look pretty good.

JD, I have the MX-5 and also have property in northern MN, and I have logged in over 40 hours of seat time cutting aspen thats about 18 months old and I think it works fantastic as long as you can avoid the stumps.

That is good to hear. I used my neighbors 60 inch swisher behind my jd buck.
All i did was break the trail into the food plot I am going to make. Let me tell you that little 14 hp swisher did all right. It was not very subtle going through that stuff. I was wearing hearing protection and it was pretty noisy, but the little mower did all right for making a trail. I did find a few stumps to avoid, but there was not too many. I hope I can dig those out with the 3520 fel.
