353 HST shuts off for no apparent reason

Tiptoo when I said said they all break if you use them I meant all brands of tractors. You got a good deal looks like and that size tractor can do a lot of work. I’m glad you are happy with it. I was looking at t554 or maybe t394 cab I have a Mahindra 4035 os gear. The Mahindra version of the tym is a lot more money so just weighing my options.

Looks like you can download a workshop manual at Tym T353HST Manuals.

Was looking through and I don't see a simple list or method to read fault codes. On page 10-9 it has a short list of conditions that cause the engine to stop.

I would probably check and clean all the engine and frame grounds shown on pages 10-12 and 10-13. You might also replace all the fuses. I have seen fuse elements crack and not look blown but cause intermittent problems under load. These are simple cheap things to try on ANY problem that may be attributed to electrical faults.

I had been considering looking into a TYM since the prices are so reasonable but I have no use for a $25,000 yard ornament.

Thanks for that link to the manual download. I'll add that to my collection. It appears that will be far more helpful in tracking this down than my owner's manual. Thanks also for the advice on cleaning grounds. I've had some really weird problems over the years that have come down to a flaky ground. Trailers are famous for bad grounds and connections. Seems like trailers sit outside and the electric wiring on them is bottom of the line.

Thanks again. I sure appreciate all the help I'm getting here.

They all break if you use them. I知 thinking about one myself and may go for it but right now still researching. It seems tym has come a long way hope the op finds his problem without to much trouble

I've been really happy with the 353. I've done a lot of work with it and it has been trouble-free. In the past year, I haven't worked it much, so it has been sitting in the garage neglected. That will change soon. I'll go over 500 hours on it the next time I use it.

You're welcome. Don't overlook my suggestion to replace fuses. I have seen this several times where a fuse looked good but had a cracked filament that would open under a load. Have also seen the blade contacts corrode. I always clean the contacts with fine sand paper and lube with petroleum jelly.

x2 on the fuses.. even if they look good, they can be bad.. same goes w/ the fuse holder/block.. sometimes the corrosion inhibits the flow & when you take the fuse out, it "cleans" the contact a smidge..
A couple swipes w/ some sandpaper & a quick squirt w/ a electrical spray will save you all sorts of time, frustration AND MONEY down the road.

My 353 HST has just short of 500 hours on it. While operating it, the engine will just shut off suddenly. It will then start right back up. It would do this about every 3-4 hours, usually when I was working it clearing snow or grading our road. I suspected the seat safety switch. Now the problem has started happening every few minutes while operating the tractor, so the thing has become useless. Still suspecting the seat switch, I bypassed it. That isn't the problem, as the engine continues to die suddenly when it is at operating temperature.

I can hear the clack from the fuel solenoid when it happens. Sometimes, when the tractor is idling, the "Check" light will come on and go off, but in monitoring the dash while operating the tractor, there are no warning lights or indications that anything is wrong prior to hearing the fuel solenoid clack and the engine dying.

The only thing I've been able to find on the "Check" light is that it indicates an unsafe condition, but it doesn't outline what an unsafe condition is.

Any ideas?

If your oil pressure switch doesn't solve the issue, go ahead and replace the fuel cutoff solenoid.
I have a 2014 T353 that had the same issue, which started intermittently when it only had 20hrs on it and got a lot worse over the next 40 hrs. Two different dealers couldn't figure it out because they would never run it long enough to get it to working temp where the failure would occur. I raised **** directly with Tym warranty when the dealers were wasting my time and gas, talked to their service manager who sent me a new solenoid to install. It's been stall free for a couple years now.

It turns out from the schematic that the solenoid used this engine has two coils, one electromagetizes to draw the solenoid plunger back to start, and the second coil then electromagnetizes to keep it back (and engine running) when the other cuts off after a few seconds of running. It was this second one that went bad on mine, so initially the solenoid would clack and kill the engine after about 2-3 hrs of work, but got worse and more frequent over time and several trips to the dealers for diagnosis. After the initial stall which was usually 2-3 hrs in, it would restart right back up again each time only to cut back off after the few seconds when the solenoid switched from the start coil to the run coil. It would do this then endlessly until you let it sit for 30 min to cool down.

If yours is in warranty have the dealer replace it, if not I've seen them online for $75. Hope this helps and hope you have good luck solving the issue

You could rig up a 12v test light on the fuel cut sol, and run the tractor til it dies. And see if the test light is still lit. This would answer everything. and That seat sw? No clue. Never heard of it on a tractor. I知 out of the seat all the time, and it痴 all still live, pro, engine, Ect.

I pulled and replaced all the associated fuses. I don't have any corrosion problems. I live in a very dry climate and dust is a bigger problem than corrosion. I'm also lucky to be able to garage the tractor when not in use. The fuses fit extremely tightly, so I'm confident I have no contact problems there.

That's an interesting proposition. I'll have to take a look at it and see if I can figure out which leads are which. I wish I had more time to dedicate to working on this problem but I have another major project under way that's going to take priority for at least a couple more months.
