3616 Mahindra-battery is hot-nothing happens when I turn the key

My battery is hot - 12.2 amps. Nothing happens when I turn the key. The glow plug light doesn't come on. I cleaned the battery post and connections. Made sure my ground wire was clean and secure. Not sure what I should check on next....ANY IDEAS?

I offer more assistance but if you think 12 or 13 amps is enough to start or run the tractor you are mistaken. Sounds like you need to phone a friend or spend some time with your test meter manual and some basic electrical knowledge.

This will give you a bump and maybe someone has a good source for some basic info for you.

Pull out battery take to auto parts store and have it load tested.

A fully charged battery should measure just over 13 volts. A typical starter draws 300+ amps. The only way to test for a weak cell is a "load test". An auto parts store will have the equipment. Even with a weak cell the battery should be running some lights. There just won't be enough available amps to run the starter.

From your OP I would check for an open along the main line. Follow the positive and negative cables for loose connections. Could also be a fuseable link, regular fuse on the positive run. Or the actual ignition switch.

Maybe a cell shorted. I would be really ascared (like that?) of a hot battery after having been just feet away from one that exploded a short while ago.

I have a Mahindra 4510. Somewhat similar issue, turned out to be a bad battery cable itself.

If you put a jumper cable on the cable lug on the post, and you still don't get juice, I would vote for the cable ends having a bad connection.. Jumper safe... to the frame ground. Wear safety glasses and be careful! Batteries can explode.
