My 3720 4 wheel drive started making a binding noise today that sounds like something will brake if I leave it in 4 wheel drive. I disengaged the 4x4 and confirmed that is definitely the 4x4. I looked in the manual after I found that the axel torque bolt was loose. I retightened it to 24 ft. lbs. but still have the binding. Anyone ever have a similar problem?
Mine also has been leaking hydraulic oil at the rear since the fall of 2005 which I recently had repaired by the dealer after I discovered that 2 of the bolts that attach the plates which the backhoe mounts were stripped. The JD rep was in the dealer when they repaired it and the consensus was that the weight of the 448 hoe caused the bolts to loosen. I don't know if I buy that but it is no longer leaking.
I have loved my 3720 but if the problems continue it may change to like. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Ended up being a broken pinion gear. Would have been $850.00 for parts if it wasn't under warranty.
JD apparently have had similar occurrences and their engineers are working on a fix.
FYI - My tractor is 11 months old.

Thanks for the update. I know I'll be keeping an "ear" on my 3520 to see if it develops any issues.

Thanks for the update 454,

First year production issues are something that have always concerned me with cars, trucks, motors--any big purchase, and prior to the 3320 purchase I never would consider getting a first generation machine... hope I don't regret ignoring my own advice...

If the issue is really widespread it would be nice if JD will look at retrofitting units as they have with the QA bucket mounts that have broken.

Then again, that 3720 is generating some insane hp/torque values on what I guess would be the same components (?) as their fellow lineup... did they mention if it was all the 3x20's showing problems or just the 3720?

Sorry to hear about your setback. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I took it that it was with the whole series but I am not sure. My dealer said if they come up with a fix he will bring mine back in for a retro-fit. I got it back in a couple days and it is working fine now. I am attempting to be a little less aggressive with it now.

I have a 790 4 Wheel Drive. At 150 hours all of the gears in the right side of the front axle shattered. After the dealer replaced these, 20 hours later all of the gears in the left side did the same thing. The dealer said that they checked the left side when the replaced the gears in the right side and didn't see any problems. They are claiming that JD has had some quality control issues with the heat treating of the gears. I found another string on TBN that several other people had the same problem. One of them was at about 57 hours and another at 130 hours.

The Dealer replaced the gears on warranty but is telling me that JD is still asking questions and trying to blame the problem on something else. I sent him a copy of the previous thread.

Needless to say, I am very disappointed with JD and the dealer for not replacing all of the gears at the same time and saving me the additional loss. It cost me about $800 in fuel just to deliver and pick-up the tractor both times. The dealer says that's my problem.
