380 shot shell

once we made a shot shell for a 41 mag with a gas check under and over the shot.

that 45 does have an impressive pattern.

got a 221 case turned. i used an expander mandrel turned around backwards in a neck turner and chucked the case in a drill. it is thinner than a 223 but that does not appear to be a problem yet. crimping the end may be hard but i can put a wad in for sure. heck i can probably use pliers to fake an end crimp. feeding may be an issue but heck for what it needs to do we can work around that.

Tell me a little about the backstop in the.380 test video.

I'm considering setting up something with recycled rubber to harvest more lead.

That is 3/8" plate steel.

About 4000 lbs of it.

Gives you a large margin of error and contain all bullets sent down range.

You can make something smaller that will work too and if you add a heater you can melt the lead right out of it.

Very nice. I've been considering ground rubber with steel in a portable shed. Do you know how deep of a rubber bed it takes to catch 200grain/3000fps rounds? Google has failed me.

Would be quite a bit, that's fast for a bullet that heavy. Maybe deflect it with AR 500 plate on an angle first and it would take a lot less.

I have an irrigation pond we are constantly enlarging. The spoil piles have been a local shooting spot for years. Usually there is barely a trace of anyone being there, but I have found a few belted magnum cases. Lots of shotgun slug sabots I'm not aware of anyone with a .50 so I picked rough guess on a belted mag.

The snail trap needs a designated firing line. There are elevation changes from 100-200 yards that would make me nervous about entry trajectory.

What did you use for the trap? Ice got a few steel #30 (forklift size) propane tanks I've thought about. Ground rubber I can get for free free.

The last one I built was just for checking loads, 1/4" plate and a 1/2" thick AR 500 plate at 45 deg into sand.

Not for long range at all but function and velocity testing of production rounds lot of lot. It's inside a sound deadened conex. Uses an Oehler 35 with holes cut for the sensors, lights and one for the exhaust fan.

So testing can be done in the same building as production with 8" of sound deadener all around.

been setting around in the cold and finally got to put together some snake shot. i never could hold tight enough tolerance to turn down a 223. darn! wish i had some done but ...

i pulled some 9 mm shot capsules and had to cut off about 130 thou. tedious but i did not bust a single capsule.
they cycle but i have not been rough on them and have not shot any yet. looks promising anyhow.

I took a Dillon powder die and machined another insert for it to form the cases, from cut .223 cases.

It's a lot faster than turning each case and works just as good. The one on the right is what they look like after being fired.
