3830 or 4330

Hi all:
I would appreciate any advice on which tractor will be best for me. I have 7 acres, about 1/3 clear, 1/3 brush and other nasty stuff and about 1/3 timber. I started thinking a 3430 would be good, then after convincing my self that for a few bucks more the 3830 would be the perfect tractor ... now I am wondering if the 4330 would really be the best for my situation. I want a DT so at least I am not going to agonize over the 5030 /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
Because my brush land is pretty rough, I would like a heavy duty cutter. And with the hurricane season upon us again, I am going to be running a pto generator.

My dealer, Star Equipment in Hammond, LA, has quoted:

3830, R-4, Kubota 723 Loader with QA 19,500

4330, R-4, Kubota 853 Loader with QA 22,800

I think the prices are pretty good, but am wondering if the extra HP and larger loader is worth 3,300.

Also, does anyone think there will be a noticeable hr/gallon change between the 3 and 4 cylinder engines?

That sonds like an excellent price if I understand MSRP numbers correctly (mostly from what I see HERE ). That would be roughly 80% of MSRP. I haven't had anyone quote me less than 17% off MSRP on any tractor.
Probably either one would suffice for your property. For that kind of deal, I'd go with the 4330 for any future needs to maybe be met with extra horsepower.
There's nothing wrong with DT if that's what you prefer. I think your resale value will be a much higher percentage of what you pay up front with GST or HST. Just my opinion from looking at used tractor sales on ebay and maybe I am wrong. Of course, if you never sell it, who cares? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

OK, for everyone's benefit, I just came from the dealer after testing both the 3830 and 4330. The 4330 seemed a bit longer and wider. Dealer says that the 4330 runs a little smoother (I couldn't tell the difference) and that I would be happier in the long run with the larger tractor. Dealer also said that the larger engine may actually use less fuel under load. The package deal for the 4330 is as follows:

L4330DT 4wd R-4 Tires $18,000
LA 853 Loader with QA Bucket $ 5,200
Single Rear Remote (installed) $ 700
Woods BB72 cutter $ 1,750
Woods 6' Grader Box $ 795
Bolt on Grapple w/ hoses (installed) $ 1,500

TOTAL 27,945 plus tax

Also, dealer told me about Kubota insurance. For $18.00/month you get a $250 deductible policy that pays fair market value, not loan balance, (important for me as I am putting about 25% down) for theft, vandalism, flood, windstorm and most importantly, accidental damage /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif.

However, if y'all think that the 3830 with the 723 loader would do just as good a job, I wouldn't mind saving the 3k. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That looks like a very nice package, GuyL. Don't forget to get the rear tires filled; at least I would. What kind of tires...R1s?

I can't speak on the Grand L prices. That may be a great deal, but I wouldn't know. I do know that the L4400 basic tractor has the same engine as the L4330 and probably goes for a few thousand less. People have been posting $19K prices for L4400 with FEL (dunno 'bout the QA bucket tho).

The L4400 has a rather basic 8 speed forward/4 reverse gear transmission; but if you're going 4330DT and not GST or HST, it wouldn't be much of a step down. The L4400 lacks the bells and whistles and its loader isn't quite as strong as the LA853; but it's a good value.

I've got the L4300, predecessor to the L4400; very similar except for transmission. It has plenty of power but is a bit light. Filled rears are required to put the power to work.

Before committing you might want to get a quote on the L4400 and ask your salesman his opinion. You might be able to get L4330 power at the L3830 price.
