After running the rotary mower for a couple of hours I was heading back to the barn and it shut down like I'd pulled the fuel shutoff, any ideas?
It has plenty of fuel in the tank and there's no water in the separator.

Clogged fuel lines, a pump not working or your fuel shutoff linkage came unhooked and it cut the fuel.
I can't remember how the linkage and shut off at the pump is connected so I don't remember if it is spring loaded to shut or if it is just an open/closed and the fuel stop literally just moves it.

I have had fuel problems in tractors that do exactly what you describe from gunk in the tank coming loose and plugging up the lines, that eventually caused the pump to go out.
see if you are getting fuel out of the pump by first cracking the bleed screw loose and cranking the tractor, if no fuel comes out you have a clog somewhere. If fuel comes out when cranking then loosen a line going to an injector on top of the pump and see if fuel comes out when you crank, if no fuel comes out you have a pump not pumping. If fuel does come out then you have injector issues but I can't imagine all thee injectors quit at the same time.

Of course it could be the pump gear, cam not opening/closing valves or something else internal to teh engine. Hope that it is a clogged line.

Ok, a little more info now. I pulled the fuel filter off to replace it and only got a slow drip out of the housing while the filter was off.
I pulled the line loose from the tank and got the same slow drip. I'm guessing that there's something in the tank blocking the fuel.
The inside of the tank looks brand new so I don't think it's a buildup but something's going on in there.

There is a mesh strainer in the top of the tank valve. Valve unscrews out of tank to access, so it can be cleaned, they are prone to stopping up over time

I put a little air pressure to it to blow it out and we're up and running again. I'll drain the tank next weekend and clean the strainer. Thanks guys!

FYI, if you blew air from the valve into the tank, you may find that you have blown the screen off the valve, they just press down into the valve body.
So, if you find no screen on the valve when you remove it, look in the tank well from the top for it

I figured I might've blown it off, I should be able to fish it out.
I was just surprised that it shut down so quickly. It went from full power at 1800 rpm to shutdown in a couple of seconds. I thought something in the pump broke.
