Got a shot at a 3930 New Holland. 570 hours, 4x4, loader, syncro shuttle, 1994 model. $8,500.

Good price? Bad? I'm going to look at it tomorrow. Anything I need to look for on this particular model?

I don't know of any thing bad with that tractor. The 3930 was a great tractor. Didn't have all the thrills the the TN's have that replaced it but they were simple, dependable, solid tractors. That price for what you are getting is a great price. If you don't get it let me know and I will. If anything I would be wondering why it is so cheap.

That's basically what I was thinking. I haven't been able to find one bad thing written about them on the net, even though the model was out for 9 years or so.

I'll know more when I get there. (I figure the ad is probably a misprint, but it's worth going to look).

The model is actually quite old. It is the same basic machine as the old Ford 4000 from the 60's with minor upgrades along the way. That was how Ford could produce them so cheap because they didn't have to upgrade their tooling ever few years.

One of my favorite tractors. That eight speed is one of the most reliable trans. ever. If I found one here for that I would buy it if it were sound. Kind of hoping with the tobacco being phased out I my run into one worth the money. Starting to see the 2wd drive sized tractors showing up here and there.

Well, we went to look at the tractor tonight. Tires are pretty well cut up. One of the rears has a hole big enough to pass a softball through, and dealer says it has a boot in it. The right front hub has been replaced. Both top pins on the loader have been cut off and new ones roughly welded into place. Decals are faded and in some cases gone, partially gone or faded so bad that they can't be read. Paint is also faded but no major rust. Engine looks clean and starts good with no smoke on cold start and rev. Still, for $8,500 beggars can't be choosers.

Now for the fun part. Ask the dealer how much. Dealer says "$18,900."

I whip out the print out from the website, showing him the $8,500.00 number. "Theres a one in there somewhere" he says and hands the paper back. Then he tells me they have another one at the other store with more hours that they want $14k for. I guess that's supposed to make me feel better somehow.

Anyway, as of fifteen minutes ago, I check the New Holland website and the same tractor is still listed at the same dealer for $8,500.00, and there is no other tractor like it listed at their other store.

I still don't understand how a simple typo could turn $8,500.00 into $18,900.00. Needless to say, I am disappointed. So, I will continue my search, next weekend we will venture farther south, where I have found a dealer advertising a Ford 1700, a Bota B8200 and a Kioti 3054 all with loaders and all under my 10k ceiling.

I figured there had to be a 1 missing somewhere. It sounds like that tractor has been abused quite hard in its short amount of usage. However, cosmetics can be fixed easy enough. Good luck on your seach and sorry this one didn't turn out well. Of course $18,900 is extremly high for that tractor when you can get the same TN version for $25k brand new. The 3930 was quite a bit cheaper then the TN's when they were both in production so I don't know where he is coming from on that price. That price is what that tractor cost brand new in 1994 with the loader. As you described I think $10k would be fair and he would replace the tire.

10k is what I was thinking. The hours are low, but the tractor looks like it's been rode hard and put up wet. It's now the next day and the net price is still showing $8,500.00.
