3cyl Diesel Not 'Warming Up'

I did, it does move the throttle plate.
Mechanical knob shut off that has a linkage that connects to the same plate as the throttle linkage.

I have to keep the throttle up to keep it idling... Another detail to consider. But you can't really tell the throttle is up, but without it raised it runs for less than 30 seconds.

Also, there is no load whatsoever, clutch pedal is locked down, it does not continue to run for as long if clutch pedal is released.

Thank you
Definitely a fuel delivery/pressure issue. KISS principle again, fuel filter condition? Maybe swap it out to eliminate that. Is fuel tank above engine so it gravity feeds to the filter? If so, loosen the line to make sure there's good fuel flow out of the tank.

Sounds like this problem came on gradually? So a fuel delivery restriction of some kind would be at the top of my list.

After working on the fuel system did you follow the manual steps for bleeding off the air?

Does it have a temperature gauge on the dash that reads out in degrees? If not, consider going down to the Car Parts or Amazon and get a gauge kit. Then at least you will know if your changes are making a difference. I did that to mine. Came with everything including the right brass thread adapters for a metric engine, and cost less than $40. Mounted mine with two screws to the bottom of the dash.

Then take a piece of cardboard and block off half or more of the flow through the radiator - do that from the front of the radiator and it should heat up if it is going to....regardless of whether the thermostat is stuck. And it's usually the thermostat....

We've already determined it has nothing to do with engine temp.

Ok. Sounds like you have some other problems than not getting up to heat. Best fix those first.

I will swap the filter! I think he has one already.

Fuel tank is above, I will verify flow.

Great ideas, thank you.

Sorry about the wording there, a buddy of mine described the fuel system as 'not warming up' so I've been referring to it like that.

No worries.

What was the lift pump you mentioned?

Stay with us on this, including the ultimate fix. That makes this thread valuable for someone in the future that comes here and "searches". :)

One of these, this pump is pre injection pump.

Will do! I'm sure I'm not the first with this issue, it's likely something that K.I.S.S will solve.

Hmmmm,,,,, wonder what this little widget does? Assuming it goes in the bottom of the tank? No electricals? Maybe detects vacuum and stops fuel flow when the engine isn't running? So it's failure caused the injector pump to flood and pour fuel into the the engine block? Trying to brainstorm this.....

It's just a simple mechanical lift pump. Goes on the side of the engine. One of the lobes on the camshaft pushes the plunger in/out and a combination of check valves allows the flow to the right direction.
