Never had a problem with using the HST. I just keep my foot on the rocker pedal and rarely even need to touch the brake. I've done a lot of work with the tractor and never had any problem. In my opinion, don't put it in N. To me it seems like a lot better control (and safer) to just feather the HST pedal and not bother switching back and forth from pedal to brake. Not criticizing, just my opinion.

I second the motion of keep the HST in gear.. dont get in the habit of going to neutral. It can roll away with you pretty quick..best to just feather the hydro pedal. or lay your foot on the brakes.

I guess I'm thinking of my side by side pedal HST system, what is the brake pedal in your car is now the go forward pedal. If you've got someone holding a t-post for you maybe its best to have the tractor in N with parking brake on? Sitting there with your foot on the go forward pedal when some is in front of you and your parking brake is easily overpowered with a slip of right foot seems like a bad idea to me... Atleast for a new user. Well pushing the post in with the loader and some one holding it also seems like a bad idea overall. Seems to easy to mash someone with a slip of a foot or hand.

I did some measuring today with the bucket all the way up and I would be hard pressed to get anything longer than 7' under it. No way an 8 footer would fit.

here is an idea, haven't done it but something to think about.. build an adaptor, out of a piece of 2 or 2 1/2 inch steel pipe with a cap on it or plug welded in the end. now weld a loop of chain about 5 foot long so it hangs down maybe 2 1/2 foot. Weld on a chain hook backwards (in other words, the open end pointing forward/down) to the top of the bucket, (may require reinforcing bar welded to the top of bucket. (I welded one to mine for hooks) Then tilt bucket down and hook the hook in the length of chain loop hanging down. now bucket is at 5 foot height, helper puts the adaptor over the T post and guides you forward carefully to hook up to the chain loop, and you put a little down pressure on the loader, and guides you to forward or back just a little to get the post vertical, and steps back.. you apply pressure and down it goes. Might work, lets see what others say.

The guy or girl on the ground holds the post to the side of the bucket where the Operator can see them. Hold the post only as long as it takes the Op. to put slight pressure on the post and then the guy or girl on the ground gets back away from the post and laughs when the Op. pushes down on the post and folds the cheap *** post in half! Or the stronger post picks the front of the SCUT off the ground. Don't ever get in the habit of putting a tractor in neutral. Learn to stay in the seat and in control!

Merry Christmas to all!

I think it's important to have the support fixture, in this case the tube as long as possible to prevent bending. No way it will lift the tractor up unless it hits a big rock. I have built a garage and addition on this property and never found any rocks. I have also installed 400' of fencing and never hit a rock. :)
