I have a 30 inch scoop I use while in reverse for various projects with my little ford 1510. The scoop has the option of being reversed & used while I am in fore ward motion. I am wondering what sort of projects/work would I do while going fore ward and does it dump as well as in reverse? Actually while in reverse mode it is just a bit too long for my rig and doesn't dump completely unless I am on a bit of a high place, but it is fine for me anyway. It seems to me that while facing fore ward it would be a little lower when dumping.

I have used one many times with a ford jubilee. Had no problems dumping but it does level out the pile more as you dump going forward. It is a lot easier to pull than push, ag tires are directional. We always pulled it when we could unless we were up against something.

I mostly use it getting material from a pile & taking it to another location, so fore ward isn't an option there. I have turf tires so directional traction is the same, I just can't think of something to do in fore ward mode. Perhaps I will try it to "skim" off some high spots I was looking at around my house where the rain water off the roof has built up a "berm" & the water runs more sideways & is then concentrated in places I don't want.

They sometimes call them pond scoops. I believe someone on here said they had dug a pond with one.

It will work much better in both directions with a hydraulic top link.

I just noticed at the bottom of this page are 5 similar posts about 3ph scoops that have a lot of good info.. @Xfaxman by top link I assume you mean the turnbuckle I have.. Interesting where would one look for one? I can see where hydro would be a great addition especially if it would shorten more than the turnbuckle. I assume it operates independently from the lifting links & can change the pitch of the scoop while digging (or @ least while mounted) would be nice.

Yes it will change the pitch while digging.

Thanks 4 the info. I now recall seeing that companys' stuff on another post. My rig has a "block" where a second hydro component would hook up however it also has a manual switch so that only one thing can be run @ a time.. I guess the addition of an electric pump would also come into play to get around the "splitter" block. Getting kinda pricy for a 6 acre pasture.. Have 2 look for some used components but thanks for the ideas. Just started out wanting/needing to replace my JD tractor mower.

I've opened several drainage areas and used the dirt to buildup the terraces that supported them with mine in forward position. As mentioned above, works great to drag and smooth the dirt as you dump. As my tractor size grew, mine sits more. Wish I had a 48" or larger for my CAT II tractor, but I've never saw any.

i've moved many yards of dirt with a yanmar 1700 and a 30" scoop. also used an 8n on the scoop as well.

can you put longer lift arms on your small ford. i put ford arms on my yanmar. worked out nicely!

I was thinking along those lines just this a.m. I was also wondering if it is possible to put another adjustable upper link on the left side. It is handy to be able to tip my scoop or boxblade to the max and make a shallow V shaped ditch, however sometimes I can only go one way and would like to lower the left side to make the other side of the V.. I am assuming the right side ones are "normal" as that is where I have always seen them & theredore easier to find I wonder if they could be put on the left or would that be one specially made for the left side??

I love the way the scoop smooths out the dirt I use it all the time to patch low spots in my pasture and dirt driveway..

yes. no reasin why you can have 2 adjustable links.

I once made one out of pipe.. ie.. piston and sleeve.

drill holes every inch or so in the sleeve and then you can drill 1 hole in the rod. then slip it in our out and pin it.

that side is 'less' adjustable. but better than nuttin..

Thanks "Sound" would it be possible to use a "right hand side" one on the left side?? I can easily see the pined one U made would work but kinda hard to get it 12 inches or so down & pin it, I would like to crank it.

you let the load rest on the ground then raise the lift till you can pin it. etc..

lionks will fit.. or at least on an 8n / old ford they will. not sure if your links geometry may be different.

great ideas as you may have firrered out I am not much on mechanical stuff but I have a friend who is I can get to look at the geometry & see if it will work. The pin deal would work in the mean time, I never would have thunk it myself.

You have to be cautious using on in reverse since the tractor's 3pt structure is designed for pulling, not pushing.

I have used them in both directions but generally in the forward direction. Mostly for ditching and digging/moving dirt. I once did a small "pondlet" using a scoop and a box blade. IIRC, it was about 30'x10'x 5' deep.
