Wow! Looks like you caught it just in time.
I suspect JD stopped printing X55 manuals when those model tractors went out of production in '97 or '98. I've posted a pic of the cover of mine if you are curious. The good news is that there are printing companies that make a living out of publishing out of print manuals. The JD dealer is the place to start. They will have a publishers name and number for you to call. I'm almost certain somebody still prints manuals for our "old" tractors. You should have no trouble getting one. Maybe even someone on this forum could provide the information for you?
I'm glad your 3ph is back on track.

OkieG,

Is the technical manual available for every tractor model like the 4110 for example? Are the JD dealers willing to provide those manuals to the "end user"?

Thanks!

The parts dept. will gladly sell you one if they have it in stock...but they probably won't stock your tech manual. If JD still sells 'em, your dealer can order it and probably have it for you in short order. If your tech manual is no longer sold by Deere, hopefully your dealer will have information on a publishing company that does print it. I believe your dealer will be gald to help you find a manual.

PS- I just looked at the Deere Web site. The operator's manuals for 4000 TEN series CUTs are still available, so with any luck the Tech Manuals will be available, too.
Deere probably offers two Tech Manuals for your tractor. One is dedicated to the engine only. The other is for everything else about your tractor. The Engine Component Tech Manual will help you tear down and reassemble every nut and bolt on the engine. I have that manual, but hope to never have to use it.
The most useful one for me is the Compact Utility Tractor Tech Manual. Yours will likely cover some engine items, like engine/fuel operational checkout and system diagnosis. It will also cover everything you'll every want to know about all your tractor's other systems. It will pay for itself the first time you use it.

JDParts has the tech manual for the x55 series tractors, but it's $145. This seems a little high /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I think I will keep an eye on the one on eBay just in case. How comprehensive is the manual? If it is worth the $145, I don't really have a problem, but I have no experience with the JD tech manuals. Also, I think I have heard that the service manual for the Yanmar engine is a different publication. How much of the engine is covered in the tech manual?

Hmmm......JDParts has the CD-ROM version for only $75, but it also says it is an obsolete item.

That's extremely high compared to what seems a reasonable cost of printing. I bought mine when I got my tractor in 1998. Then, I recall paying under $100, but not much under.

I am not a widely experienced Tech Manual person, but I believe this manual will walk you through about any project. I think it's the same manual the service guys use. I used my manual to help me rebuild a broken front axle spindle mechanism. There are many, many pictures illustrating every step. The sample I posted for your 3ph adjustment is a good example of how the book is put together. In my opinion, the manual is very comprehensive and written and illustrated so a somewhat mechanically inclined non-mechanic like me can work his way through. If you plan on keeping your tractor for a while you will probably get the chance to use it a few times.

Yup.

<font color="blue"> How much of the engine is covered in the tech manual? </font>

The Contents page of the Engine/Fuel chapter is attached. The engine manual is detailed enough for overhaul/rebuild. The engine section of the Tractor Tech Manual covers more testing and adjustments rather than massive dismantling and rebuilding.

Ya know Dave,
Now that you're in a book shopping mode...if you run across a Parts Catalog for a reasonable price, you won't regret getting it. There's been many a time the poor parts guy looked long on his computer for a part I needed. And sometimes, I'm not sure the part he found was the right one. If you're armed with a part # you don't even have to go to the dealer. Just call him on the phone. If they have the part, great. If they have to order the part, you haven't wasted a trip, and it can probably be mailed to your house whether it's in stock or needs to be ordered. If you live close to your dealer maybe a trip or two is no big deal. My dealer is half an hour away. Sometimes I like to make the trip, other times it's nice to let my fingers do the walking, especially for small parts.
