Anybody use the one from tsc ? County line vert or horizontal? Thinking about buying one.

I bought a splitter used, it came from TSC. So far, it looks good. I think it is a Speco.

Ok. This is the speeco I believe. Is your horizontal and verticals? And does it mount perpendicular to tractor?

I started of with a tractor powered splitter & quickly converted it to a standalone so I could use the tractor & it is also a lot cheaper on fuel.

I would encourage you to go with a standalone splitter.

I have a 3PH splitter for my JD750 and I can't complain at all about the fuel consumption. HOWEVER, it has it's own PTO-driven pump and is not dependent on tractor hydraulics. I don't believe I'd be happy with one that ran off tractor hydraulics given the GPM of most CUTs.

And, in my opinion, there's something to be said for not having another motor to maintain.

They used to sell Husky, which is rebranded SpeeCo. Country Line is rebranded Behlen. See http://www.gohawkline.com/pdf/Hawkline.pdf
My SpeeCo is a dependable and hardworking TPH splitter. Hasn't disappointed me yet. Unfortunately I know nothing of the Behlen line. Might not hurt to compare specs before commiting

The fuel issue aside, I lean towards a stand alone also. That way the tractor isnt tied up, instead free for other uses. In my case I have no need of resorting to a pickup/trailer to haul in wood. Wood for me is close enough i can load it in the tractor bucket and split right out of said bucket. Another advantage is i can raise/lower the tractor bucket to a comfortable height to manuver blocks onto the splitter platform instead of having to bend to pick them off the ground, or stretch to get them off a trailer or other transportation platform.

I have the same model that Lou66 has. I've had no problems. Fuel consumption might be a problem if you will be using it all day long but you don't need a big tractor for one of these.

I will admit that it not a speed demon if running it off of a rear remote. Do a quick calculation on the amt of fluid needed to operate the ram given your tractor's pump capacity.

I'm another proponent of stand-alone. I have the Northern Tool North Star 30 ton with the Honda GX engine. Works well and can split all day on one tank of gas. It automatically idles down when the splitter blade retracts all the way. Solid piece of equipment.

I made my own, originally for a 1958-JD 520, when I sold the 520 & bought a 790, I replumbed it to use on the 790, by adding a control valve on the splitter & longer hoses to reach the loader bucket hydraulic connections.

Works great for me & low cost! ~~ grnspot

I have a 3pt, and it works good, but I only use it to do big hard rounds now, or to hold logs for cutting. Why put wear on a big $$ tractor when a little 5 hp does the same job for way less.

I have the same exact splitter.

TSC will sell anything that they can get their hands on. They don't stand behind the stuff they sell. I bought a Champion (chinese) 22 ton from TSC and the hydraulic lines rotted and blew out in less than a year. TSC said that's not their problem and would not do anything for me. The Champion repair depot where I live don't have parts and couldn't get them, as well that part wasn't covered. (I wonder what is) Bottom line is stay away from TSC if you expect after sale support.

They have their place. Just be selective in what you purchase.

I have a 3 point hitch model from Northern tool. Horizontal model allows me to adjust the height and makes it easier on the back. Attaches to remotes. No problems what so ever. At $499.00 I thinks it is a good deal

I also use a horizontal 3 pt splitter, for the exact same reason as Grant1 - my back. If you have ever used a stand alone splitter, most of them force you to work all hunched over. I use my splitter in the woods a lot, and having it on my 3 pt allows me to adjust it to a comfortable heigth no mattter the terrain.

Not too much of a problem with my stand-alone. I can use it vertically and horizontally. Check out the Northstar line while your at NT.

I bought a County Line log splitter at TSC a couple of years ago. The only issue with mine is the spindly legs. I was sent a new set under warranty with no questions asked. Mine busts through huge elm rounds with no issue. I have it hooked to a Kubota L3800.

Mine's nice and stable now after welding horizontal braces between those spindly legs. Three sides only, I figured an operator-side brace would likely prove to be hard on the shins.
