Jay,
I think you are using your rear remote to power the BH. The control lever for that remote has to be in the forward or rear position to supply hydraulic fluid to your BH. To get fluid to the 3pt. you need that control lever in the neutral, center, position. KennyV.

Correct - I am using the rear remotes. Where is the control lever? Is that the little valve that's down by the hydraulic fluid filter?

Thanx - JayC

PS - This past weekend, I used my backhoe to dig a hole for the sole purpose of filling it back in. My wife busted me...I'm so ashamed.

The selector by the filter is for the loader…if you remove the loader you must turn the slot from vertical to horizontal…
To locate the control for the rear remotes just follow the lines from the female connectors mounted on the tractor… about a foot from the quick couplers you will see them enter the tractor. That point is the control valve. It should have a valve control handle going up and into the operators space on the right side of the seat. If it is not there the previous owner may have removed it, because he never had intentions of removing the back hoe. KennyV.

Hmmm...very interesting. I definately do NOT have a control lever where you are describing. The only controls that my 4200 has to the right of the seat is the 3pt height control lever and the PTO engage control lever.

Maybe there's something hidden somewhere. Dang, I'm going to have to drag out my manual. I hate that...

Thanks Kenny - JayC

Thanks for all the inputs guys. I figured it all out today - spent the entire day battling with my beast.

Turns out that there is a high-pressure-side hose up by the loader control that has to be hooked up to run the 3pt hitch. The hose is either connected to the backhoe remote or the 3pt.

The backhoe connections are both the same, female, and have a brilliantly simple bracket that mounts the coupling sleeves to the tractor. When you yank on the hose, the coupler slides inside the sleeve and the hose pops out. A great feature for the backhoe, since if you forget to unhook the hoses and drive away, the hoses both pop off w/o damage. And yes, I did exactly that.

I never did get the 3pt running - I got distracted trying to get my backhoe off of my tractor, which I failed at BTW. One of the backhoe hoses was apparently made too short, so the subframe couldn't be lowered far enough for me to clear the rear axle bracket and drive off. I could've put blocks under the wheels to lift the rear, but I figured I'd save it for another day. Then I got even more distracted by pulling, cleaning up, and re-setting my backhoe's main swing pins, which evidently haven't ever been done before. I'm gonna need bushings soon.
