3pt ballast

   / 3pt ballast #21
i have been looking at various ways of carrying rear ballast when using the fel. the nortrac ( northern tool ) 35xt, 35hp, 4wd,coming for xmas is rated at 1874 lbs lift cap. i have been thinking of using a 3 pt dump hauler loaded with 30 to 50 gal buckets, drums, or concrete block with cast in steel handles in which to secure the loadin the hauler with cargo strap or chain. when ballast for the fel is not needed i could use the hauler for wood and tool transport. turning radius is not of concern where i would be using the fel. any ideas or thoughts, has anyone used a hauler with dump bed and tail gate rated at 2500lb carrying capacity? thank you for any comments.

I load my rear tires with RimGuard. It added 1300 lbs of ballast. Keeps your 3 pt free for other attachments, good for at least -40 deg F, non-corrosive on your wheels and puts the weight right where you need it. On the ground at the lowest center of gravity.

Well this is not a pretty as the store bought.

But it is in its second reincarnation, Org loaded with concrete pillars which i have other uses for.

I partially filled with unused hardened concrete mix, then mixed fresh to fill, added more , mixed more, the used some unused mortar mix to finish off.

Estimated 950 Lbs.

I did some ebay and google searches, the company that made these bands is long gone, I failed to find others. And i find that hard to believe.

Its too simple, too effective.

HAH! I have never seen anything like that, or even thought about doing that.. does it work well? I don't see why it wouldn't though.

This one was made by a company in Jackson MS 25-30 years ago.

But whats not to work. It's weight.
2 simple brackets.
I must admit i have no clue what the rear bracket/pipe mounts were suppose to be for. 2, 1 1/4-1 1/2 vertical pipes? One is still folded up.

Most tractors lift arms will hang below the pins so that is a easy hook up if aligned.
But you ant going to slide it around to aid alignment.
The top link often has to be taken up some.

I didn't have a old receiver hitch to butcher, Wile mixing cement I thought about implanting a receiver hitch tube, poking a couple holes for rebar to have a extra trailer mover/ vice mount/ winch mounting.

But didn't plan far enough ahead LOL

Yeah, I put the 2 inch reciever in mine, and 3 of the 2 inch pvc tubes in for handle tools. wish I had put at least 1 more of those in. I also put in a couple of 6 inch pvc pieces to corral log chains on top of the concrete (mine did not go all the way to the top).

Saving up for LED's but as close as i am going to get to a radio on a tractor is a new Muffler.

But I can weld a couple tabs that will make good chain hangers.
