I'm wondering if I might be able to get the job done with a 4' boxblade and a york rake? Using the bb instead of using a disc harrow(which I don't even own anyhow)?

First of all, a 4" (inch) box blade is awfully small. Something larger would make the job go much faster.:laughing:

The tines on a box blade will work fine for tearing up the ground. It will look like a mess until you level it out. Hard clods and old dried sod will be your enemy.

You will find that a york rake, if used for leveling, will pick up clumps of anything, sod, roots, leaves, etc. and fill up much like a box blade. The soil needs to be very fine for a rake. A rototiller can accomplish this. (Some people swear by a rake for leveling gravel but usually there is a pair of training wheel involved. )

You can forget about a disc if you don't have access to one. The tines will work well enough for the job you want to do.

Oh that sounds great! last time I did a yard was mine 20 yrs.ago!My neighbor disc n drag it and I used a 3' or 4' pull behind york rake on a Bolens 10hp I had..and killed lol! I did my 3 acres, what a chore! This should be alot less demanding, though I do worry about the unknown-Tree roots evidently this was previously a treed lot.. I suspect we may have a bunch of roots to contend with. This should be a good challenge to get 'er done in 2 days..:confused2: It'll be a good experience for my son too!:thumbsup:
