Tiller 3pt Tiller or walk behind ?

You both need to be sure your insurance covers you when doing this.

Most home owner policies base coverage on where the tractor is and not on how it's used.

My insurance won't cover me. But, I have known these people since I was old enough to walk. I'm knocking on 50 now. If I do something to their property I will fix it myself or pay someone to fix it for them. If I don't know the people, I simply tell them my equipment is broke.

I realize there are many people out there who are money hungry but, I'm not going to let that stop me from doing someone a favor. Thanks for the concern, though. Roger

I had a grey market tiller with a grey market tractor for a while and it worked well.

It digs pretty well in hard ground. I've even broken sod with it. If the ground is moist, it breaks up the sod surprisingly well.

I have a gray market Iseki tractor w/ a 48-in. Yanmar rice paddy-style tiller. My neighbor asked if I would till up his whole front yard, about a quarter acre of dead sod. I told him if he watered it good for a couple weekends I give it a try. It worked great, even with this relatively light weight tiller. Turned up that old sod with ease.

I looked at a KK @ TSC today, it didn't look too bad. The quality looked better than I thought it would. But like I said I'm going for a used one first, I won't see any in the paper until spring hits here.

Troy horse you can probally find a good used one somewhere this is a rear tine tiller all cast iron construction. (you can even back it up to a pile of loam)
How wide is it?
My 3 point tiller is 48'' wide.
I can haul the tilled up dirt away much faster with the 48'' fel on the BX23 than I can till it up with the 48'' tiller .
There is just no way a 16 to 24 inch wide walk behind tiller can keep up with the BX23.

I just bought a used "like new" 60" KK II tiller off of Craigslist. It was local, at a fair price. So keep your eyes open. I saved several hundred dollars off of new, and the unit does appear to have very little time in the dirt and it was barn kept.

I have a stand alone BCS rear tine that I bought 30 years ago. It still runs like new and I could sell it for more than I paid for it and buy a TPH. I won't because for my garden it is more useful than a TPH. I can weed rows with it or till one row and replant. With a TPH the width would be too wide. Last year I had to til my whole yard after a septic field repair and a tractor tiller would have been better. It depends on the use you have for a tiller which one is better for you.

We started with walk behinds and will always have one, am investigating a KK now before the garden season starts. The 3 point is good for the garden prep, and the walk behind is for the rows in the garden when it's growing.

Within the next 2 weeks I will be getting a KK 6' for I believe 1700. Will have to spent 100 dollars in diesel to get it, but our town wants 1999 for the same one.

When I was stationed in ND, I had a sears 11hp tractor with a snowblower- I earned more cookies on that thing and almost no money.

How wide is it?24 in wide could not get a 48 in through a 36 in gate or get into other tight places or go between rows in the garden!
My 3 point tiller is 48'' wide.My 3pt tiller was 5 ft wide!
I can haul the tilled up dirt away much faster with the 48'' fel on the BX23 than I can till it up with the 48'' tiller .and I can haul away tilled dirt and your BX23 with my JD 510 backhoe with a 80 in bucket!
There is just no way a 16 to 24 inch wide walk behind tiller can keep up with the BX23.[/QU YOUR RIGHT! But he asked for help in choosing what kind of tiller and I gave my opinion on the facts. You can buy a used Troy Built for 350-400 bucks electric start.and from the description he gave I thought this would be a sound choice to begin with for cheap money.
and there is no way your BX23 can keep up to a SAME DRAGO cutting grass .
Let's compare apples to apples.

Kenstrac, Makes a valid and worthy point here , to start out with a walk-behind. I would be able to get into one for cheap money compared to a 3pth. Everyone here makes a good point for the tiller they have, and it looks like both would certainly fit the bill at some point. I do think for garden maintence and for getting into tighter places, a walk-behind would win. For doing large area's or for backing into a pile, a 3 pth would be the winner. You guys have given me much to think about.
