4 blades for 1850 brush hogs

More weight, more drag on the hyd motor. I have tried it for a fact, by putting another bld 90 degrees to the other bld on the spindle of my Dixie Chopper. It slowed down the rpm. If you can get the same weight mass with 4 blds, there will be no change in rpm. If one bld hits another, that is a disadvantage. With a proper design, that will not happen.

I certainly didn't consider the drag that the blade would have, as it is actually moving air like a fan. I know on the Deere stuff you can get high vacuum and low vacuum blades, and the high vac blades obviously have more pitch. So if you go to four blades, you should go with a lower pitch.

i custom made my blades on my 1850. I went heavier (hardened 1/2" steel). I had the trailing edges lifted to create lift underneath. It kinda worked. but I think ended up kicking up more dust than the flat version and did less to lift grass up.

This all said, i think they dull slower, and really wack the heck out of blackberry brush, making the remains much more manageable.
