Mark, that's why you'd better off with a GST, you wouldn't have to stop and use the loader to pull those trees out you could just hit the ground with the tooth bar angled down a little, just put it in gear and drive forward and clear your property in short order. You wouldn't be slowed down by all that whining and slipping from that automatic trans.
(Sorry Mark, couldn't resist)
And while we're still talking about the 4-1 how about a new thread on thumbs. I've looked at a couple and have a local builder that makes them for everything from big track hoes down to scooters. There's some lift loss from the extra weight, but I feel it be worth it for me where I can't get in with the loader, and I've seen a guy using one with a piece of iron to "hand-grade" around trees.
What tradeoffs if any have you noticed? Any interference problems when digging? Are using a foot pedal to clamp and unclamp or an extra lever? There also seems to be two mounting options, down low so you can set rockery rocks or up as high as possible to stay out of the digging area
The excavators I rented both had push buttons in the levers to clamp and unclamp. That was slick.
The guy that makes them said he usually plumbs themself, he had someone bring him a Kubota they had spend bookoo bucks on some kind of an optional valve or port and it was worthless as it was only an on-off valve not an forward neutral reverse setup. Probably used for a hydraulic hammer I bet...
