4-in-1 bucket

Del, I've got a Sales Attachments, Inc. thumb on my Bradco 609. It's just a manual one that pins back completely out of the way when you're not using it, and has a spacer that allows you to position in one of two working positions. It's not as handy as a hydraulic thumb, of course, but it's a lot lighter and doesn't require additional hydraulics. No more than I need one, the manual one is fine for me. It works great for picking up logs and rocks, chunks of asphalt or concrete, etc.

That sounds a lot better than my old solution which was tying a tire on to the boom for something to wedge against! I've thought about a manual one too, I know a guy that has one of those and finds it very useful. As I remember though your hoe is just "one of many" things you hang on the back.

Anybody out there with a hydraulic thumb?

Mark, what have you been emailing Santa for this year? Soil Pulverizer or Power Rock Rake? I don't want much, just a 4-1 bucket that when the clamshell is up, the remaining "bucket-blade" can be tilted all the angles that a bulldozer blade can on a CAT, and with a set of removable bars that hook midpoint to the tractor so pushing forces are a lot better and easier on the tractor...I don't want much! Oh...and a cupholder on the L35...

Yes you can't forget the cupholder that is one of the most important options that a tractor can have. Next to a 4 in 1 that is. I would love to have a 4 in 1 but first things first. I need a new tractor first. How do you like your L-35 does the hoe have plenty of digging power? Would you rather have a hst if they had that option?

Richh, Mark, and anybody else with a 4-in-1 bucket. What size Long bucket did you get for your tractor. I am trying to make up my mind between a HJ2- 60",62" or 64" bucket.
Tractor is a JD 970, 35hsp. Bucket on their now is a JD 73" with tooth bar. I know I cannot go that wide because of the extra 4-1 pounds. The tractor rear wheel spread is 58" inches so all of the above will cover tire tracks on back dragging. However, I am not that good a pilot and need all the margin I can get while back dragging. The weight differences on the above buckets are as follows.
The 60 weighs 445#s, 62 weighs 456# and the 64 weighs 468#.
As you can see their is only a 23# spread between the 60" and the 64" buckets. Price spread from 60" to 64" is only $35. Dealer leans toward the 64" on the "bang for the buck" theory.
I would be more interested in what the forum thinks.
Also tooth bar to fit from the 60" to 64" bucket comes with 7 teeth.
I am thinking of adding 1 extra tooth to narrow the spread between teeth. I do a lot of brush work and I am wondering if tightening the space between teeth would help that much.
Let me know what you think of this idea as well.
I been wanting to get this bucket for a long time and now that Uncle Sam is sending me back some tax bucks I can finally make my move.

thanks again,
george

George, You need to look at the ratting on you loader and the weight of your bucket now and under stand that you will now pick up less! But I would not let that stop you from getting one I won't leave home without it. I would go for the 64" thats what I put on and its just wide enough. Thooth bar is great as you know, if your happy with your setup now I would do the same, this is the first one that I ever had and I love it, like a big rake!!
