I know very little about 4 wheel drive, but I have recently noticed fluid on the inner and outer rim of my driver's side front tire. It's thick and tacky (Of course...now loaded with dirt), and I'm thinking it's front end fluid coming from maybe a leaking seal. What fluid goes into the front end of a 4 wheel drive tractor and how do I check it? How do I go about checking to see if a seal needs to be replaced, or if there is a more serious problem afoot? By the way, this is a Mitsubishi 2501D. Thanks for any and all input and responses.

If the inside of the wheel is oily, the seal is bad. Check the fluid from the top plug. Most use 85w90 gear oil.

Clean everything thoroughly and after checking the oil level in the axle and the gear box, keep a close eye on the assembly for awhile. You should be able to see where it begins leaking. I suspect you will find that it leaks between the upper and lower case. If so check for play between the two housings indicating the bushing is worn. I can supply repair parts.
