Like the pics reminds me of when i was little.
On a funny/scary note however my niece who is now 7 was almost 5 at the time when she decided to take moms jeep for a drive that almost ended up with a call to the police. My sister went into the shop for just a minute and my niece decided since she knew how to drive it mom wouldn't mind if she drove it back around the barn just for some fun. since then she has learned that she cannot drive something just because she knows how.

I agree with setting time aside for the kids and the equipment. I let my 6yr old use the backhoe to build a snow fort Ie flat and me standing behind her and no one around. More often than not when I am done for the day the kids get to ride around the yard but not while working the equipment.

My Dad had be all bundled up and on our old Farmall H with him in Feb. of 1960, I was 6 months old then, mom and grandma flipped out, Dad's reply,"Hows the boy going to learn? and I got to teach him early!" I was operating the "H" on my own when I was 5 years old and the rest is history! Well that was 51 years ago that i went for my first tractor ride, and I thank God everyday for my dad doing it so early in my life. Seems that when my "buts" not on the seat of a tractor my mind is. Last week was good 24 engine hours moving snow! .. . John

I have a 4-1/2 yo grandson that can smell the diesel smoke of my tractor from anywhere on our place.
If he hears my truck start up or the tractor crank, he's all elbows and heels beating it to wherever PaPa is.

I let my 10 year old grandson drive the tractor by himself last weekend. He has been mowing our city yard on the riding mower since he was 7 and has been riding around on it since he was 5. There is only one way to teach them. Practice. Responsibility for their actions and more practice. He has earned the privilege to play with all my "toys". I trust him. He has driven my truck in the field end to end, rides everything else and this was the first time on the tractor. When I first got it, he sat between my legs (bushhogging) with his knees in the dashboard til his knees couldn't take it anymore.
Keep up the good work teaching your young ones and enjoy every second of it like I do.

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) - A 3-year-old boy has been killed in a farming accident just east of the Twin Falls airport.
Twin Falls County sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Stewart tells The Times-News that Thomas Coleman was riding on a tractor with his father at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday when the accident occurred. The tractor lurched forward and the boy fell under the wheels of the tractor. He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

CHICKASHA, Okla. (AP) -- A 4-year-old boy has been killed after falling from a tractor and being run over by a brush hog mower the tractor was pulling.
Grady County Sheriff's Sgt. David Jacobs says the accident happened about 7 p.m. Tuesday in a pasture near Chickasha.
The state Medical Examiner's office identified the boy yesterday as Zachary Tollett. Jacobs says the boy was riding on the fender of the tractor when it hit a bump and he fell.

Wayne County, Pa. — A tractor accident claimed the life of a Damascus toddler Monday evening.
Twenty-three-month-old Zevrix Hyde was riding in a large, closed cabin Ford tractor operated by 30-year-old Nicholas Wilcox of Damascus when the accident occurred around 5 p.m.
According to the State Police report, the toddler fell out of the right side door and was run over by the right rear tire. Wilcox stopped the tractor immediately.
Hyde was pronounced dead at the scene by Wayne County Coroner Carol Lienert. The accident occurred on Arnold Hill Road, half of a mile west of State Route 191.

A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy who fell from a tractor driven by his grandad was killed in a tragic accident, a coroner ruled today.
Little Cory James suffered a head injury when he fell from the tractor as his grandfather mowed a playing field in Islip, near Kettering in Northants, on June 13.
The boy, from Thrapston, Kettering, was taken to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry but later died. The cause of death was given as head injuries.
Giving evidence at his inquest at Kettering Magistrates' Court, Cory's 55-year-old grandfather Christopher Mayes said the lad came running across and asked to get into the tractor with him.
He said he lifted up his grandson, moved the seat back and sat him on a bit of the seat between his legs.
Cory had ridden in the tractor before and it was a treat for him, he said.
But while Cory was in the tractor, he spotted his dad, Simon James, across the field with a toy helicopter for him.

God, was waiting for the saftey police on this one. Heres a tip, keep your kids in a bubble inside of a padded room. Then nothing will happen. I was driving tractors when I was 6, I'm still alive. That kids got more risk dying in a car accident any day if the week. Glad she had fun. You only live once.
