This site and the help from it's members have been amazing...thank you. As far as brands go, I really haven't heard anything bad about Kubota...so I'm leaning that way. I was recently quoted approx. $38,500 for a M7040 with FEL, cab and hydraulic shuttle. I really would like to stay in the lower $30s if possible.... Is that possible?

I think you can only do that buying used in that size. Sometimes I buy used and sometimes new.

so u are in rocky country out there

No, its not rocky. Just rolling hills with decent soil.

As far as getting getting a good tractor with a cab and FEL in the low $30,000 range...is this possible?

I'd look at what time you want to spend on the mowing and how often. It does get old!

Ground speed as well as the width of the mower will determine this and that will lead you to how big of a tractor you need.

Pretty much all the tractors these days are pretty good. I would start out looking at any and all tractors and dealers within whatever your comfortable driving distance may be. Depending on you, if you need a dealer, or if you would do all work needed on the tractor will determine what type of a dealer you work with. And the type of dealer that you may require can determine what brand of tractor you get. Typically Kubota, John Deere, New Holland and Massey Ferguson are a bit higher priced than the other guys. Not that there is anything wrong with any of the others, just saying how it might be in your area.

Heck, I have 2 Mahindra's and am very happy with them, but as far as a good local dealer with any brand, just doesn't exist in my area. :(

Not trying to tell you what to do, but with what you have mentioned so far, I am not convinced you need a 70 hp tractor. I'd again recommend looking at the Grand L 5740 HSTC. Thanks for the location information, I know the kind of country you are in. All my other recommendations stand.

Or, go used.... watch Craig's List. Use SearchTempest to expand your search area to all of Texas.

I agree you should stay with a functional cab and A/C.... agree that Kubota has been rock solid for a huge number of people, very few posts of problems. If you like your local dealer, that's a plus.

Also, don't forget to budget for implements, and numerous ones... a tractor is only an engine...it's the implements, front and rear, that get the work done.
